Long Island University Sharks Betting Preview

The Sharks opened the season on a pretty rough run, but they’ve cleaned things up a bit since early January. Long Island U stumbled to a 4-11 opening, beating only Pratt, Air Force, Charlotte and York NY along the way. After wins over Le Moyne, Chicago State, Stonehill, Central Connecticut, St. Francis PA and Mercyhurst, the Sharks lost to St. Francis PA, Mercyhurst, Central Connecticut and Chicago State in the next four. Since then it’s been five straight wins though, as LIU has dispatched Wagner, Stonehill, Fairleigh Dickinson, Le Moyne and Wagner again in that time. That gives the Sharks a 15-15 overall run through 30 games.

In the Wagner rematch at home on Thursday, the Sharks hit a 28-22 halftime advantage. Long Island U kept it up from there on a 32-25 run and took the victory in the end 60-47. Leading the team in scoring was Malachi Davis with 17 points, two rebounds and two steals. Jamal Fuller added 13 points, and Blake Lander put up 13 points and two rebounds off the bench. Terell Strickland chipped in 10 points in the victory as well.

Fairleigh Dickinson Knights Betting Preview

Over on the Knights’ side, they’ve been pretty shaky all year long and as a result they’re sitting six games below the .500 mark in the record column. Fairleigh Dickinson also opened up their season on a 4-11 run, then hit a 5-2 stretch that featured a pair of losses to St. Francis PA and Central Connecticut amid wins over Wagner, Le Moyne, Chicago State, Stonehill and Le Moyne again. Since then it’s been a 3-5 run with wins over Wagner, Chicago State and Stonehill amid losses to Mercyhurst, Central Connecticut, Long Island U, Mercyhurst again and St. Francis PA. Over 30 games this year that gives the Knights a spotty 12-18 overall record so far.

Matched up against Stonehill in their home rematch on Thursday, the Knights were ahead by double-digits 36-26 at the break. Fairleigh Dickinson added another 46 points in the second half and powered out the win 82-69 in the end. Tops in scoring was Terrence Brown with 23 points, five assists, three steals and three rebounds. Dylan Jones put up 17 points with three rebounds in 29 minutes of work as the only other player on the team to finish in double-figures during the victory.

Why the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights will win

  • The home team has won eight of Fairleigh Dickinson’s last nine games.
  • LIU has lost each of its last three day games at Bogota Savings Bank Center against non-AP-ranked opponents.
  • LIU has lost the first half in six of its last seven games at Bogota Savings Bank Center.

Why the LIU Sharks will win

  • LIU has won each of its last five games against the Northeast Conference.
  • Fairleigh Dickinson has lost four of its last five day games following a home win.

Long Island University vs Fairleigh Dickinson Prediction

I’ll stick with Long Island U. I’m probably not touching this one, but it should be a competitive game. The Sharks rolled right past a middling Wagner team in their last outing, shooting a decent 43.2 percent from the field with a 38-27 rebounding edge and just 28.6 percent shooting allowed on the other side. LIU did have 16 turnovers for 14 Seahawks points in a sloppy game, though.

The last time these teams saw each other was on February 15 in a 62-58 home win for the Sharks. Long Island U held the rebounding advantage 34-26, but also committed 18 of the game’s 35 turnovers during another messy game. Both teams need to clean up their mistakes in the rematch, but it should be a fun one to check out.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Long Island University Sharks +1
