Idaho Vandals Betting Preview

The Vandals opened their season with a matchup on the road versus Washington State. Idaho jumped out to a 43-34 edge at the break in that one, but had to hang on for an 83-81 win after getting outscored 47-40 in the second half. Tops in scoring was Kristian Gonzalez with 18 points in 18 minutes, and Brody Rowbury added 13 points with six rebounds and two assists. Jackson Rassmussen added 12 points with two assists and two rebounds, while three different Vandals players kicked in 11 points apiece during the victory effort on the road.

In game two versus Whitman College, the Vandals didn’t have too many issues. Idaho was up 37-29 by halftime in a rather modest advantage but then closed on a 57-20 run in the second. The result was a 94-49 win in the end. Tops in scoring this time was Jackson Rasmussen with 19 points and four boards. Kolton Mitchell added 17 points with six assists and five rebounds while Isaiah Brickner had 13 points, five rebounds and four assists in 18 minutes of action. Seth Joba managed to double up with 10 points and 13 rebounds in the win as well.

San Diego Toreros Betting Preview

Over on the San Diego side, they opened up their season on November 4 versus Occidental. The Toreros rolled to an 88-59 victory in that one, posting 51.4 percent shooting with a 42-28 rebounding advantage and 16 turnovers. Occidental posted 14 turnovers on the other side, leading to 33 points for San Diego in the victory effort.

In game two versus Idaho State back on Friday, San Diego held a 34-25 deficit by the end of the first half. The Toreros came back on a 43-37 second-half run but it wasn’t enough in a 71-68 defeat by game’s end. San Diego was led by Juanse Gorosito in the loss, who put up 15 points with five rebounds and five assists during the defeat.

Idaho vs San Diego Prediction

I’ll stick with Idaho. The Vandals are coming off a pretty routine win versus an overmatched Whitman College in their last outing, shooting a smooth 55 percent from the field in the 94-49 victory at home. Idaho went 12-of-25 (48 percent) from outside and 16-of-18 from the free throw line as well. The 52-22 rebounding advantage and 40-12 edge on points in the paint helped immensely as well—not to mention the 25 team assists. The Vandals’ 16 turnovers were just about the only thing to complain about, and at least some of those can be attributed to garbage time. In any case, Idaho is looking pretty good through two games so far. They’ve scored a combined 177 points in that pair and also have a nice road win over Washington State under their collective belt.

Provided the Vandals can keep their offense humming in Wednesday’s matchup, San Diego is going to have a tough time sticking to the pace for the whole game. I like Idaho to control this one and ultimately pull off the cover in the end.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Idaho Vandals +2.5
