High Point Panthers Betting Preview
Overall it’s been a pretty good run for the Panthers so far—despite a rough stretch or two in the books. High Point opened the year on a 12-2 record, taking out Coppin State, Jackson State, North Carolina Central, UAB, American U, Old Dominion, Hampton, Pfeiffer, North Texas, App State, Carolina U, Southern Illinois along the way. The Panthers hit a 3-3 stretch after that, losing to Norfolk State, UNC Asheville and Longwood raging that time. High Point got right back to business after that though, taking out Presbyterian, USC Upstate, Winthrop, Presbyterian again, Radford, and UNC Asheville in the next six games. That gave the Panthers a 21-5 overall run through their first 26 games of the season.
Matched up against Longwood on Thursday, the Panthers took a 40-25 edge into the second half. High Point was outpaced 47-43 the rest of the way but held on for the win 83-72 in the end. Both Kimani Hamilton (six rebounds; four assists) and Kezza Giffa (five rebounds) led the way with 18 points each. Also in double-figures was D’Maurian Williams with 15 points, two assists and three rebounds. Josh Ibukunoluwa added 10 points and five boards off the bench.
Winthrop Eagles Betting Preview
Over on the Winthrop side, they had a bit of a rough run going in December/January, but otherwise, they’ve looked pretty good in the record column. The Eagles kicked things off with a 9-3 opening run across their first 12 games, taking out Piedmont, Little Rock, William & Mary, NC Central, LIU, Averett, Queens U, Coastal Carolina, and Bob Jones in that time. A 4-6 stretch came over the next 10 outings as Winthrop fell to Florida State, Indiana, Radford, Gardner-Webb, UNC Asheville, and High Point. Since then, however, it’s been wins over Presbyterian, Gardner-Webb, Charleston Southern, USC Upstate, and Radford. The result so far has been an 18-9 overall record through 27 games for the Eagles.
In their game versus Radford on Wednesday, the Eagles were down 33-28 going into the second half. Winthrop woke up on a 50-41 run the rest of the way however, eventually taking the win in comeback fashion 78-74. Nick Johnson was the team’s leading scorer with 20 points, six rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Kelton Talford added 14 points with five rebounds and three assists, while Kasen Harrison had 13 points with three assists.

High Point vs Winthrop Prediction
I’m going to try Winthrop here. The Eagles are coming off a solid win over a decent Radford team in their last game, hitting 47.3 percent from the field with 31 rebounds. The 15 turnovers for 10 Highlanders points were just about the only thing to complain about in that victory. Winthrop has now won five straight, with 76 or more points scored in each.
The Eagles took a rough loss 84-62 on the road the last time these teams saw each other. Winthrop shot just 35.8 percent from the field in that one with a 47-27 rebounding deficit in a pretty ugly game. The Eagles are playing much better lately though, and I like them to power it out in the home rematch. Should be a fun matchup.
