Hampton sits with a 16-15 record overall, and they have been up and down all season. Hampton is averaging 72.8 points, while their defense is giving up 69.8 points per game. The offense is ranked 215th in the league, while the defense is ranked 114th. It will be a major key that the defense steps up here and makes life tough. Noah Farrakhan is averaging 13.8 points while shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from behind the three-point line. Outside of the top two scorers, the bench production sometimes lacks. 

Northeastern Picking up Momentum

Northeastern is picking up momentum and they have won two games in a row. Two games ago against NC A&T, Northeastern was able to secure 69-55 and in the last game against William & Mary, they were able to secure a 70-68 victory. At halftime, they were down 41-31 and in the second half, they scored 39 points on the way to the victory. Rashad King had a huge game putting up 22 points, six rebounds, and five assists. 

Northeastern has a 17-14 overall record and is 14-16-1 against the spread. The Huskies are averaging 70.3 points on the season, and their defense has been inconsistent at best. Rashad King has been the top player, averaging 18.4 points while shooting 45 percent from the field and 31.66 percent from deep. One big key heading into this tournament is that they are healthy, and that is a good sign. 

Why Northeastern Will Beat Hampton

• Hampton has lost five of its last six night games against non-AP-ranked opponents at a neutral venue.

They always say getting hot at the right time is crucial, and that is exactly the case in the last couple of games for Northeastern. Two games ago Northeastern gave up only 55 points, and they ended up winning by 14 points. Northeastern is averaging 70.3 points, and they are going to have an issue running up the score. Hampton on paper might have the better offense, but I don’t think they are going to dominate here. At some point Hampton’s cover streak ends, and it’s going to be here. Northeastern is going to end up cruising here and they will cover the spread.
