Grambling State Tigers Betting Preview
Grambling State’s season kicked off on a pretty awful run. Following an opener win over Southern New Orleans, the Tigers hit the skids against some tough teams. Those losses came versus Ole Miss, Florida, New Mexico, USC, and Cal Poly. Grambling State was able to beat Arkansas Baptist in their next game before another losing streak. Those defeats were versus Pepperdine, Southeast Louisiana, Delaware State, Norfolk State, and Cincinnati. Following another win over the College of Biblical Studies, the Tigers fell once again to Prairie View A&M for a 3-11 record through their first 14 games of the 2024-25 season.
In the Prairie View matchup, the Tigers fell behind by a 36-29 margin at halftime. Grambling State didn’t get any closer in the second half on a 37-26 run and took the eventual loss 73-55. Leading the team in scoring was PJ Edwards with his 15 points and six boards. Kintavious Dozier added 12 points with five rebounds, one assist and one steal. Ernest Ross also had double-figures with 10 points, and Louis Hutchinson added four points off the bench.
Texas Southern Tigers Betting Preview
Over on the Texas Southern side, their season got off to a pretty bad start as well. The Tigers beat Texas A&M-San Antonio in a blowout during their second game but otherwise lost to Xavier, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Samford, and New Mexico in their first half-dozen outings. A win over Texas-A&M Kingsville came next, then another losing streak. Those defeats were versus Texas State, Sam Houston, Nevada, Boise State, and Abilene Christian. Texas Southern was able to beat the College of Biblical Studies on December 28, then fell to Southern on Saturday.
Matched up against Southern, the Tigers were only able to muster 21 points in the first half while allowing 29 on the other side. Texas Southern didn’t get any closer on a 38-37 second-half deficit and fell 67-58 in the end. The only starter on the team to finish in double-figures was Zaire Hayes with 19 points, two rebounds, one assist, and one block. Duane Posey came off the bench for 11 points, one assist, and three steals in 18 minutes of work. Kenny Hunter added eight points and seven boards, while Jaylin Jackson-Posey had nine points with three steals.

Grambling State vs Texas Southern Prediction
I’ll lean toward Texas Southern, but I’m staying away from this one. There’s very, very little to get excited about here—even if you’re a fan of either team. That said, this one should be a competitive matchup, and it’ll mark the first relatively comparable win of either team’s schedule so far. Texas Southern needs to shoot way better here, though; they hit just 27.9 percent from the field in the loss to Southern and had 15 turnovers. That makes fewer than 66 points in each of the last three losses.
As for Grambling State, they shot quite well (55.6 percent) in the loss to Prairie View but also gave up 53.8 percent on the other side and coughed up 23 turnovers. Grambling State has been below 56 points in consecutive losses now, so they could use a shot in the arm offensively as well. This one’s a coin flip and I’m not touching it, but it should be a good one to watch if you like competitive (and probably sloppy) basketball.
