Grambling State Tigers Betting Preview

Grambling has had a lot of difficulties this year, to say the least. The Tigers have yet to win consecutive games, and the losses continue to pile up. The first seven matchups were a 2-5 run with losses to Ole Miss, Florida, New Mexico, USC, and Cal Poly. Losses to Pepperdine, SE Louisiana, Delaware State, Norfolk State, and Cincinnati came next, then a win over the College of Biblical Studies. the next five outings were a 1-4 stretch, though. Grambling took a win over Florida A&M in that quintet but otherwise fell versus Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern, Bethune-Cookman, and Southern for a 4-14 overall run through the first 18 games this year.

In their Saturday matchup versus MS Valley State, the Tigers faced a four-point deficit going into the second half. Grambling recovered nicely from there, notching a 42-27 run on the way to a comeback win 65-54. Leading the starters in scoring was Antwan Burnett with 12 points, five boards, four assists, and two steals. Emareyon McDonald added 12 points and one rebound in 17 minutes of work off the bench.

Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions Betting Preview

Over on the Lions’ side, they’ve similarly had plenty of issues in the win column this year. AR-Pine Bluff has not registered consecutive wins yet. In their opening 1-8 run, the Golden Lions took losses to Cincinnati, Tulsa, South Florida, Incarnate Word, Texas Tech, Missouri, Pacific, and Kansas State. A 2-2 stretch came next with wins over Central Arkansas and Ecclesia bookending losses to Louisiana Monroe and Texas. The next five were all losses, though. AR-Pine Bluff fell to Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Prairie View A&M, Florida A&M, and Bethune-Cookman in succession for a 3-15 record in their first 18 games of the season.

Matched up against Southern in the Saturday game, the Golden Lions were looking at a 43-37 deficit by halftime. Arkansas Pine Bluff didn’t end up getting any closer on a 40-30 second half and took the eventual loss 83-67. Leading the way in the loss on a double-double was Doctor Bradley with 13 points, 10 boards, five assists, and three steals. Quentin Bolton added 11 points with four rebounds and three steals, while Dante Sawyer had 11 bench points.

Grambling vs AR-Pine Bluff Prediction

I’ll lean toward Grambling I suppose. There’s not a lot to get excited about here, but it should at least be a good matchup. The Tigers had some trouble initially with a struggling two-win MS Valley State team in their last outing and got out-rebounded 35-28 in the eventual win. The 13-of-21 (61.9 percent) from the line was pretty rough as well, but Grambling didn’t play too badly otherwise. The Tigers have won two of their last three games now, but they’re not scoring very well overall.

As for AR-Pine Bluff, they’ve been below 68 points in three of the last four games and are sitting on a six-game losing streak. The Lions have given up 73 or more points in each of those six games, so the stage is set for the Tigers on Monday.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Grambling State Tigers -5.5
