The Eagles had a forgettable run last year with a 9-24 overall record and an 8-10 result in the Sun Belt. Georgia Southern finished ahead of five other teams in the conference standings. After a win over South Alabama in the Sun Belt Tournament, the Eagles fell to Appalachian State in OT.
In their first matchup of the 2024-25 season, Georgia Southern played Northern Illinois. The Eagles posted 40 points in each half on the way to an 80-65 win. Adante Holiman notched a team-high 19 points, while Bradley Douglas added 17 points and three boards.
UNC Wilmington Seahawks Betting Preview
Over on the UNC Wilmington side, they had a pretty good run last year at 21-10 overall and 12-6 in the CAA. The Seahawks finished behind Charleston, Drexel, and Hofstra in the standings, though. Their final game was a loss to Towson in the CAA Tournament.
UNC Wilmington didn’t have any issues with Mount Olive in their opener this year. The Seahawks scored a whopping 81 points in the first half alone, cruising to a 143-91 blowout victory. Bo Montgomery topped the team, scoring 22 points off the bench on 8-of-13 shooting.

I’ll lean toward Georgia Southern. The Eagles did a good job dispatching Northern Illinois in their opener, shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 44.4 percent (12-of-27) from 3-point range. Georgia Southern did get beat on the boards 40-34 (11-9 offensive) however, and committed 15 turnovers. There’s plenty to clean up ahead of Friday’s game.
As for UNC Wilmington, they made short work of an overmatched Mount Olive team and rolled in the blowout win. The Seahawks won’t be able to shoot 68.8 percent from the field this time though, and I don’t quite think they’ll keep a cover pace. Should be a fun matchup, though.
