George Mason Patriots Betting Preview
George Mason has a couple of spotty patches in the books so far this year, but overall it’s been a good run in the record column. The Patriots lost to Marquette, Central Michigan, East Carolina, Duke, and Rhode Island over their first 15 games, then hit a winning streak over Richmond, UMass, Dayton, George Washington, St. Bonaventure, Loyola, Davidson, George Washington, Rhode Island, Saint Louis and Saint Joseph’s in succession. Since then it’s been a sketchy 2-2 run though, with losses to VCU and Duquesne among wins over Fordham and La Salle in that time. In total through 30 games this year that gives the Patriots a 23-7 record.
In the La Salle game on Wednesday, the Patriots opened the game with a 33-26 deficit. George Mason caught fire in the second half though, posting a 43-29 advantage on the way to a 69-62 win in the end. Tops in scoring was Brayden O’Connor with 26 points, five assists, and one rebound. Jalen Haynes added a double-double on 22 points with 10 rebounds, one assist, and one steal, while Darius Maddox had 17 points with three assists, three steals, and two blocks.
Richmond Spiders Betting Preview
Over on the Richmond side, they had a middling run through their first 15 outings and have only gotten worse record-wise since then. The Spiders hit a 7-8 record in those opening games, then lost to George Mason, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, Saint Louis, Davidson, George Washington, and VCU in the next seven. A 3-2 run came next with wins over Duquesne, Fordham, and La Salle among losses to Davidson and Loyola Chicago. Since then it’s been three more consecutive losses for the Spiders. Those have come versus Saint Joseph’s, VCU, and Dayton, giving the Spiders a 10-20 overall run through the first 30 games of the year.
In the Dayton matchup last weekend, the Spiders opened on a 26-24 advantage. Richmond eventually fought through two overtime periods but came up short in the end during a 74-64 road defeat. Dusan Neskovic led the team with 17 points with four rebounds in 37 minutes. Mike Walz added 15 points with seven boards and five assists, while Mikkel Tyne was also in double-digits with 13 points, seven rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 50 minutes of work.

George Mason vs Richmond Prediction
I’ll just stay with George Mason here. The Patriots got off to a slow start versus La Salle but to their credit finished with a win. George Mason shot well in that one on 47.2 percent from the field and 14-of-15 (93.3 percent) from the line. The Patriots did get outmuscled on the boards 34-30 however, and had 12 turnovers for 11 Explorers points. George Mason has finished below 70 points in four of the last five games though, so it’d be nice to see them eclipse that mark here.
The Patriots won 64-58 at home the last time these teams saw each other back on January 8. George Mason started slowly in that one as well and ended up shooting just 38.6 percent from the field. Great work at the line and on the boards saved the Patriots, though. This rematch is going to require a bit more focus across the board but I think George Mason is up for it.
