Over on the VCU side, they were able to win 11 of their first 15 games this year before a couple of losses to Saint Louis and George Mason. After a loss to Saint Louis the Rams are sitting at 21-7 overall this season.
Matched up against the Billikens on February 20, the Rams held a solid 42-33 lead by the end of the first half. VCU was outscored badly 55-33 the rest of the way however, leading to an 88-75 loss in the end. Tops in scoring during the losing effort for VCU was Lazar Djokovic with 19 points and seven rebounds. Brandon Jennings put up 18 points with seven rebounds and four steals.

I’ll lean toward VCU. The Rams need a good bounce-back effort here after a bad second half in a road loss to Saint Louis, though. VCU shot just 32.8 percent from the field in that one while giving up 51.5 percent on defense. The Rams were competitive on the boards but got outscored 48-24 in the paint while coughing up 16 turnovers. It was the Rams’ first loss since January 10, a span of 11 games and a 10-1 run.
These teams last saw each other back on February 3 in a 63-59 road victory for VCU. In that one VCU shot a solid 45.5 percent from the field with a 34-28 rebounding edge. That said, VCU wasn’t great from the line on 60.7 percent (17-of-28) and had 14 turnovers. Still, if VCU can manage to clean up a few of their mistakes I like their chances in the home rematch.
