Fordham Rams Betting Preview

The Rams weren’t looking too bad in the record column back in late December. Since then, however, it’s been a pretty rough run of games. Fordham lost to Saint Louis, St. Bonaventure, VCU, Davidson, UMass, and Loyola Chicago during that opening stretch, then beat Duquesne, La Salle, and Rhode Island (with a loss to St. Bonaventure) in the next four. Since then, however, Fordham has fallen versus Dayton, Richmond, Duquesne, Davidson, George Mason, Saint Joseph’s, George Washington, and Rhode Island in succession. That gives the Rams an 11-20 overall run across 31 games this year so far. 

In the Rhode Island matchup on the road Saturday, Fordham was down 41-32 by halftime. The Rams fell even further behind during a 45-35 second half in an eventual blowout loss of 86-67. Jackie Johnson led the team with 19 points, two rebounds, three steals, and one assist. Japhet Medor added 15 points with three steals and four rebounds. Jahmere Tripp came off the bench for 13 points with six rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal. 

Rhode Island Rams Betting Preview

Over on the Rams’ side, they were looking pretty good in late December themselves but it’s been a choppy stretch as of late. Rhode Island kicked things off on a 14-4 run, then lost to VCU, La Salle, Fordham, and George Mason (with a win over UMass) in the next five. After wins over St. Bonaventure and La Salle, Rhode Island hit the skids with four straight losses to Saint Louis, Dayton, UMass, and Saint Joseph’s before a win over Fordham. In total that gives Rhode Island an 18-12 run across 30 games this season. 

Matched up against Fordham on Saturday, Rhode Island got double-digit efforts from three starters. Sebastian Thomas put up 20 points with seven boards and seven assists, while Jaden House had 19 points and two assists. Jamarques Lawrence added 12 points with two rebounds and two assists as well.

Fordham vs Rhode Island Prediction 

I’ll stay with Rhode Island. The Rams didn’t have too much issue with Fordham over the weekend in the home win, posting 48.4 percent shooting with 37 percent (10-of-27) from outside and 14-of-19 (73.7 percent) from the line. Rhode Island also had a 44-37 rebounding advantage and a nice 16 team assists but did give up 15 turnovers for 23 Fordham points. On the other side, Rhode Island managed to keep things honest on just 34.9 percent shooting allowed and 14 points off 14 turnovers. Rhode Island had lost four straight prior to that, however, giving up a whopping 81 or more points in all four of those defeats. 

Although Rhode Island posted a nice win over the weekend versus Fordham, they lost the first meeting between these teams 80-79 on the road back on February 5. In that one Rhode Island shot well from the field (46.6 percent) and the line (94.7 percent on 18-of-19) but also got out-rebounded 38-34 and had 11 turnovers for 12 Fordham points. Rhode Island really needs to tighten up in this third game in order to keep Fordham’s shooting percentage manageable.
