Eon kicked off their season on a shaky 4-4 run, taking losses to Marshall, Miami, Mercer and Furman along the way. The Phoenix would hit a 7-2 run in the next nine games though, falling to Virginia Tech and Charleston with wins otherwise versus Wofford, Northern Illinois, Richmond, Greensboro College, Northeastern, North Carolina A&T and Campbell. That would make for an 11-6 run over the first 17 games of the year.
In the Northeastern rematch on the road Thursday the Phoenix were within two points at the break 41-39. Elon faded on a 44-39 run in the second half and didn’t end up getting any closer on the way to an 85-78 loss. The Phoenix were led by Bryson Cokley on 26 points, seven boards and seven assists. Chandler Cuthrell added 19 points with five rebounds as well.
Hofstra Pride Betting Preview
Over on the Hofstra side, they posted a 5-4 run over their first nine games this season. The Pride lost to Central Florida, Iona, Temple and Columbia during that time. Hofstra would hit a nice win streak after that though, taking out Pittsburgh, Old Westbury, Syracuse, Quinnipiac, Campbell, Drexel, Towson and Monmouth in the next eight outings. In the first 17 games Hofstra managed a 13-4 record in the books.
Matched up against Stony Brook on Thursday the Pride were in trouble at the break looking up at a 32-25 deficit. Hofstra got slightly better in the second half on a 46-44 advantage but it wasn’t enough to mount the comeback in a 76-71 loss. Preston Edmead led the way on 22 points with eight rebounds and three assists. Cruz Davis added 16 points with seven assists in the losing effort.

I’ll stick with Hofstra I suppose. Both teams are coming off losses and could use good outings here, though. The Pride fell on the road to a middling Stony Brook team thanks mostly to a tepid 39.3 percent shooting from the field. Hofstra also got outscored in the paint 24-16 but did pretty well statistically otherwise. The loss halts an eight-game win streak for the Pride, who have scored 70 or more points in eight of the last nine.
As for Elon, they shot well (49.1 percent) and were competitive on the boards (a 33-32 deficit) in their latest road loss to Northeastern but also coughed up 18 turnovers and got outscored in the paint 40-28. The Phoenix are 7-3 in their last 10 games though, and they’ve hit 69 or more points in every game so far this year. We’re probably in for a high total here if both offenses can get going.
