Drexel Dragons Betting Preview

Drexel has had mixed results this year, resulting in a .500 run so far. The Dragons beat Widener in their opener, then lost three straight to St. Joseph’s, Colgate and Syracuse. Since then it’s been a 3-1 run however, with a loss to Penn among wins versus NJIT, Old Dominion and Morgan State in that time. In total that gives the Dragons a 4-4 run across their first eight games of the year.

Matched up against Morgan State back on November 25, the Dragons came out of the break with a 34-28 advantage. Drexel closed with a one-point deficit in the second but still powered out the win 71-66. Eli Beard had 15 points in 27 minutes to lead the team, while Villiam Garcia Adsten doubled up on 12 points, 10 rebounds and two assists. Shane Blakeney put up 10 points with eight boards in the victory effort as well.

American Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the American side, they’ve managed to keep their heads above the .500 mark so far. The Eagles opened on a 2-3 run, taking wins over Penn and Central Penn among losses to Wake Forest, George Washington and Rutgers otherwise. American is 3-1 in their last four outings with a loss to Siena among wins versus Marywood, Maine and Longwood in that stretch. That makes a 5-4 run across the first nine games of the season for the Eagles.

In the Longwood game last weekend, the Eagles were up by six points at halftime. American closed on a 52-32 run the rest of the way and took the win 92-66. Greg Jones was tops on the team with 18 points, four assists and two boards. Matt Mayock had 17 points with six rebounds, and Geoff Sprouse had 16 points with three rebounds and three assists.

Drexel vs American Prediction

I’ll stay with the Eagles I suppose. American dispatched a middling Longwood team pretty easily in their latest outing, hitting a nice 50 percent from the field and an excellent 90 percent (27-of-30) from the line. American had 33 rebounds and 13 team assists alongside 12 turnovers in the win. It was a nice bounce-back effort after the Eagles scored just 55 points in a four-point loss to Siena the day before.

As for Drexel, they played pretty well in their latest win over Morgan State—outside of the 15 turnovers, anyway. The Dragons shot 42.3 percent from the field and 80.8 percent (21-of-26) from the line along with a 37-24 rebounding edge. That gives Drexel 71 or more points in four straight games, with three wins in that time. The Dragons will be competitive here if they keep up that trend.

Andrew Jett's Pick: American Eagles -4.5
