It’s been a tough season for Denver so far. The team opened up the year with a couple of losses to Seattle U and Washington before a win over Montana State. After a loss to UTSA came another win versus Colorado State, then consecutive losses versus Arizona and Wyoming. Over seven games in the month of November, that gave Denver a rough 2-5 record overall.
In their latest outing Wednesday versus Eastern Washington, the Pioneers were able to get back into the win column with a 93-89 result at Hamilton Gym. Denver’s Jeremiah Burke was tops on 23 points with seven rebounds and a pair of steals in the victory, and Julius Rollins had 18 points with three rebounds and a pair of assists. Tops off the bench was Zane Nelson with 17 points, four assists and five rebounds in the winning effort.

Over on the Idaho State side, they’ve had a choppy run this year. The Bengals beat Park University Gilbert and San Diego in their first pair then lost three in a row. Those defeats came courtesy of San Diego State, Seattle U and Santa Clara. Idaho State closed out November on a 2-1 run with a loss to Sam Houston in between wins over Justice College and Cal State Northridge. Through eight games in the first month of the campaign, Idaho State could only muster a .500 record at 4-4 overall.
Matched up against Kansas City on Wednesday, the Bengals took a 68-59 win at Swinney Center. Idaho State got 14 points and 10 rebounds off the bench from Caleb Van De Griend while Connor Hollenbeck led the starters on 12 points and one rebound in 23 minutes. Denver vs Idaho State Prediction
I’ll lean toward Denver but you could probably call this one either way. The Pioneers posted a nice offensive outing versus a struggling Eastern Washington team this week, with 48 percent shooting from the field, 48 percent (11-of-23) from outside and 85 percent (28-of-33) from the line. Denver did give up 60 percent shooting on the other side though, and got out-rebounded 28-26 along the way. the Pioneers have 70 or more points in seven of their eight games so far this year, but they’re also giving up a lot on defense.
As for Idaho State, they shot 46 percent from the field with a 37-27 rebounding advantage against a one-win Kansas City team in their last matchup. The Bengals had a 38-30 edge in the paint but did cough up 12 of the game’s 25 total turnovers. Still, Idaho State is 3-1 in their last four games and should match up pretty well in this one.
