Delaware Blue Hens Betting Preview

Delaware limped to a 2-6 opening run this year, beating only Saint Peter’s and UNC Greensboro. The Hens would take out George Washington, Rider and Kennesaw State in their next six outings, but they’ve since taken losses to Sam Houston, LA Tech, UTEP and New Mexico State. Over the first 18 games of the season that gives the Hens a 5-13 overall record in the books.

In the New Mexico State game last weekend, the Hens entered the second half with a 49-30 deficit. Delaware didn’t end up getting any closer than that on a 48-38 run from there and took the home loss in the end 97-68. Tyler Houser was the team’s leading scorer with his 25 points, four rebounds and two assists. Christian Bliss added 19 points with five assists, and Justyn Fernandez had 14 points.

Liberty Flames Betting Preview

Over on the Liberty side, they opened up the year on a very nice 5-0 run. The Flames would lose to Towson, Bradley and NC State over the next four, but they’ve since dispatched Midway U, Dayton, FIU, Kennesaw State, Jacksonville State, LA Tech, Sam Houston, New Mexico State, UTEP and Western Kentucky in succession. That gives Liberty a 16-3 record in 19 games so far.

In the Western Kentucky matchup back on Wednesday the Flames were sitting in the locker room with a pretty slim 35-32 edge. Liberty didn’t let up from there though, hitting a 41-37 run the rest of the way toward a 76-69 win on the road. Kaden Metheny led the way with 19 points, six assists and five rebounds while JJ Harper had 16 points with four rebounds. Brett Decker chipped in 15 points in 34 minutes.

Why the Liberty Flames will win

Delaware vs Liberty Prediction

I’ll stick with Liberty. The Flames pulled off a nice road win this week versus a decent Western Kentucky team, shooting 46.7 percent from the field with 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from 3-point range. Liberty did get blasted in the paint 26-8 however, and had a 34-24 deficit on the boards. The Flames have won 10 straight games though, and they’ve managed to score 72 or more points in nine of those.

As for Delaware, they shot pretty well (44.2 percent) and only had six turnovers in their home loss to New Mexico State. Trouble is, the Hens were out-rebounded 31-22 and gave up 57.1 percent shooting on the other side. Delaware has lost four straight games, and they’ve failed to hit 70 points in nine consecutive outings.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Liberty Flames -14.5
