Coppin State Eagles Betting Preview

It’s been a busy year so far for the Eagles, who have seven games in the bag thus far. Coppin State lost a tough opener matchup versus Maryland 83-61. Topping the production in that one was Khali Horton with 19 points and two rebounds. In their second outing versus La Salle, the Eagles lost again, this time 87-59. The only team player in double-figures was Torrin Andrews with 11 points. Coppin State lost again in game three versus James Madison 84-70. Taj Thweatt was tops this time with 18 points and four boards. The Eagles lost yet again versus South Florida in their next appearance 100-50, then dropped another one 82-59 versus Central Michigan. Game six last weekend versus South Alabama was yet another defeat, this time 72-62.

On Tuesday versus Central Penn, the Eagles finally found themselves on the winning end. Coppin State was up 54-23 in a dominant first-half effort, then closed on a 49-39 run for a 103-62 blowout victory. Torrin Andrews was the team leader on 20 points, six boards and six assists. Demariontay Hall added 18 points and nine boards, while Khali Horton had 13 points, three rebounds and two assists in the winning effort.

VCU Rams Betting Preview

Over on the VCU side, they’ve been comparatively inactive so far this year. The Rams have four games in the books, carving out a .500 record in that quartet of appearances. VCU’s first matchup of the year was their first win. The team took out Wagner 103-74 in a blowout on November 3. The Rams would fall in a tough one versus a visiting Utah State team in game two however, losing that one 80-77. Game three marked a recovery for VCU though; they took out Saint Peter’s 78-61 at Siegel Center. Leading the team in the victory was Tyrell Ward with 15 points and three boards. Terrence Hill added 13 points in 16 minutes of action.

Back on Monday in their most recent appearance versus NC State, VCU slipped back into the loss column. The Rams were down 39-35 at the break and didn’t end up getting any closer in an 85-79 loss. Barry Evans was tops with 18 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Jadrian Tracey had 16 points, seven assists and four boards. Lazar Djokovic added 13 points and five rebounds as well.

Why the VCU Rams will win

Coppin State vs VCU Prediction

I’ll stick with VCU. The Rams didn’t play too badly on Monday versus a very good NC State team, all things considered. VCU shot just 40.9 percent from the field and got outmuscled on the boards 43-29 while missing six of their 18 free-throw attempts (66.7 percent). The Wolfpack made 27 of their 33 tries at the line (81.8 percent), which really made the difference in the six-point Rams loss. VCU is scoring on a very nice clip this year: they’ve hit 77 or more points in all four games. Their losses have been by a combined nine points to a couple of comparatively talented squads. The good news for the Rams is that this one should be another victory. Coppin State has struggled mightily so far this year and probably won’t score super well.
