Chicago State Cougars Betting Preview

It’s been a rough season for the Cougars thus far. Chicago State has yet to record a win through seven games. It all started with a loss to DePaul in the opener, then the Cougars fell versus Saint Louis in game two. Losses to Butler, UIC and Minnesota came in the next trio as Chicago State continued to struggle. Since then in the last pair, the Cougars have fallen versus Iowa and Fort Wayne, giving Chicago State a futile 0-7 record this season.

In their matchup with Fort Wayne on Tuesday, the Cougars came out of the break with a two-point deficit. Chicago State was outscored 53-42 the rest of the way however, leading to a 90-77 loss in the end. The Cougars’ Marcus Tankersley was tops on the team in the losing effort with 18 points, two rebounds and two assists. Doyel Cockrill added 17 points with two rebounds and two assists as well, while CJ Ray chipped in nine points with three boards in the losing effort for the Cougars.

Youngstown State Penguins Betting Preview

Over on the Youngstown State side, they’ve had a bit more success this year—but not much. The Penguins went 2-1 over their first three outings though, losing to Pitt ahead of wins versus Grand Canyon and Penn State-Shenango. The next three games however, were losses to St. Bonaventure, Toledo and UNC Greensboro. Youngstown State broke the slide with a win over Georgia Southern in their last outing, giving the Penguins a 3-4 run through seven games.

Matched up against Georgia Southern on Monday, the Penguins came out of halftime looking up at a 32-30 advantage on the scoreboard. Youngstown managed to fend off the Eagles on a 35-31 run from there and won it 67-61. Rich Rolf was tops on 22 points with six boards and Cris Carroll added 16 points with six rebounds in the victory. Cam Polak had 10 points with two rebounds in the winning effort as well.

Chicago State vs Youngstown State Prediction

I’ll just stick with Youngstown State here. Granted, there’s not a lot to get excited about if your’e not a fan of either team, though. The Penguins nabbed a much-needed win over Georgia Southern on Monday thanks to 45.1 percent shooting from the field and a 32-29 rebounding advantage. Youngstown State did cough up 18 turnovers however, leading to double-digit steals for the Eagles. The Penguins have been below 68 points in consecutive games now, but they were scoring a lot better prior to that.

As for Chicago State, they shot a nice 48.3 percent from the field and had a 21-21 tie in rebounding during their loss to Fort Wayne. The problem? The Cougars gave up a whopping 60.4 percent shooting on the other side and coughed up 17 turnovers along the way. Chicago State hadn’t cracked 66 points for four straight games prior to that however, so the 77 points were a nice total in the losing effort.
