Chicago State Cougars Betting Preview
The Cougars were looking rough back in late January, sitting at 2-19 overall after 21 games. Chicago State won four of the next five versus Mercyhurst, New Haven, Saint Francis and Stonehill, but they’ve since lost four of five. Those defeats came versus Le Moyne, Fairleigh Dickinson, LIU and Wagner. That gives the Cougars a 7-24 overall record this year so far.
In the Wagner matchup back on Saturday the Cougars entered the second half with a 42-24 deficit on the scoreboard. Chicago State closed on a 38-37 deficit along the way to a loss on the road 80-61 in the end. Tops in scoring was Marcus Tankersley with 19 points, while CJ Ray added 12 points with four boards.
Long Island U Sharks Betting Preview
Over on the LIU side, they opened up the season with an 11-8 overall run through 19 games. Wins over Stonehill, Le Moyne, Central Connecticut, New Haven, Stonehill and Wagner came next, then a 4-2 run over six games. Those victories came courtesy of Wagner, Saint Francis, Chicago State and Fairleigh Dickinson. That gives the Sharks a 21-10 overall record this year.
Matched up against Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday the Sharks went into the locker room with a tiny 31-30 edge. Long Island U got better in the second half, finishing off the game with a 43-30 run for a 74-60 victory in the end on their home court. Jamal Fuller paced the team with 17 points and four assists while Greg Gordon added 14 points with six assists and three boards.
Chicago State vs Long Island U Prediction
I’ll stick with Long Island U. The Sharks started a bit slowly against a struggling Fairleigh Dickinson team over the weekend but everything worked out the in the home victory. LIU shot 54 percent from the field and 50 percent (10-of-20) from outside in that one but did get out-rebounded 25-20 along the way. The Sharks have won four of their last five games and 10 of their last dozen games total.
The Sharks beat Chicago State on the road 74-55 back on January 4, then took another victory in the home rematch 73-56 on February 26. In that latest matchup LIU shot a nice 48.9 percent from the field with 79.3 percent (23-of-29) from the line and a 36-24 rebounding advantage. The 16 turnovers were just about the only thing to complain about. Provided the Sharks can clean up the miscues on Wednesday they should be fine.
