The Cougars didn’t start out so well this year, beating only Tusculum, South Carolina State, UMass and Evansville in their first 10 outings. Charleston would take out Charlotte, the Citadel, Northern Kentucky, Drexel, Elon, William & Mary and Hampton from there ahead of losses to Towson and Stony Brook. After two more wins the Cougars were sitting at 13-8 over their first 21 games.
On Thursday versus Hofstra, the Cougars were down by seven points at the break, facing a 30-23 disadvantage on the scoreboard. Charleston made a comeback in the second half however, hitting a 43-34 run on the way to a 66-64 victory in the end. Jlynn Counter topped the team on 22 points with 10 rebounds while Christian Reeves doubled as well on 16 points with 13 boards.
Northeastern Huskies Betting Preview
Over on the Northeastern side, they could only beat Colgate, Harvard, Duquesne, Central Connecticut and North Carolina A&T during a very rough 5-8 opening run. Since then it’s been a 1-6 stretch with losses to Campbell, UNC Wilmington, Towson, Monmouth, Stony Brook and Drexel (with a win over Elon). Over 20 games this year that gives the Huskies a 6-14 record in the books.
Last weekend versus Drexel, the Huskies were trailing by five points 33-28 by the end of the first half. Northeastern kept the pace from there on a 50-50 run but it wasn’t enough in an eventual loss on the road 83-78. Xavier Abreu topped the team with his 19 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Luca Soroa Schaller added 15 points with four rebounds as well.

I’ll just stick with Charleston. The Cougars didn’t shoot very well from anywhere in their comeback win over Hofstra this week but still got the win. Charleston was a rough 37.9 percent from the field, 16.7 percent (3-of-18) from 3-point range and 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the line in the victory. It was a pretty ugly statistical game but that makes three straight wins for the Cougars.
As for Northeastern, they didn’t play horribly in their latest loss to Drexel. The Huskies shot 46.8 percent from the field with just seven turnovers and they were pretty competitive on the boards. Northeastern has lost three straight games and six of the last seven though, giving up 78 or more points in all seven of those games.
