Charleston Southern Buccaneers Betting Preview

The Bucs managed to post a .500 run in the early-going this year, posting a 5-5 run over their first 10 games. Charleston Southern would then win over Warren Wilson, South Carolina State, North Florida, Richmond, Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville in the next seven games. The next trio were all losses to Winthrop, High Point and USC Upstate though, giving the Bucs an 11-9 record in 20 games.

On Wednesday versus Presbyterian, Charleston Southern couldn’t keep pace in the first half and went into the locker room with a 38-29 deficit. The Buccaneers came back with a 54-49 run in the second half but it wasn’t enough in an eventual loss on the road 87-83. A’Lahn Sumler was the lead team scorer on 26 points with six assists and three rebounds in 38 minutes of work.

Longwood Lancers Betting Preview

Over on the Longwood side, they managed to stay above the .500 mark (barely) in their first 11 games, notching a 6-5 record to start things out this year. The Lancers lost two more before beating NC Central, Averett and Winthrop, then hit a 1-3 stretch that included losses to High Point, UNC Asheville and Radford in that time. Over the first 20 games of the year that made for a 10-10 run.

Matched up against Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, the Lancers didn’t have too many issues. Longwood entered the second half with a 42-24 advantage and cruised the rest of the way on a 49-32 run in an eventual 91-56 win at home. The Lancers got double-doubles from Elijah Tucker (21 points; 10 rebounds) and Jacoi Hutchinson (14 points; 10 assists; five rebounds) along the way.

Charleston Southern vs Longwood Prediction

I’ll stay with Longwood but you could argue it either way. The Lancers demolished a struggling Gardner-Webb team in a home blowout this week, hitting a cool 55.4 percent from the field and 80 percent (12-of-15) from the line alongside a 40-25 rebounding edge and a 54-32 advantage on points in the paint. Longwood had 12 turnovers along the way but that was about the only thing to complain about. The Lancers are just 2-3 in their last five games but they’ve got 77 or more points in three straight (a 2-1 run).

As for Charleston Southern, they couldn’t quite keep pace with Presbyterian this week despite shooting 47.8 percent from the field with a 32-30 rebounding edge. The Bucs got to the line just eight times though (making eight) as opposed to the Hose’s 22-of-36 (61.1 percent) effort. Charleston Southern has lost four straight games now, giving up 81 or more points in each.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Longwood Lancers -1
