Campbell Fighting Camels Betting Preview
The Camels made the most modest of improvements record-wise last season, topping their 2023-24 total by one game at 15-17 overall and 10-8 in CAA play. That would put the Camels in fifth place among the standings, behind Towson, UNC Wilmington, Charleston and William & Mary. Campbell skidded into the postseason on a four-game losing streak, then had a quick CAA Tournament life with an opening-game loss to Delaware on March 8 to end their season.
In their opener versus Wisconsin on Monday, Campbell had a tough task ahead of them on the road. The Camels fell behind by 10 points at the break, then got outpaced 48-26 the rest of the way in a 96-64 loss. Leading the team in scoring was DJ Smith with 23 points and four rebounds. Chris Fields added 13 points with five boards in 21 minutes of work, and Dovydas Butka also finished in double-figures with 10 points, eight rebounds and two assists.
West Virginia Mountaineers Betting Preview
Over on the West Virginia side, they made a big turnaround in the 2024-25 season. The Mountaineers posted a decent 19-13 overall record with a .500 run in the Big 12 at 10-10. WVU landed behind Houston, Texas Tech, Arizona, BYU, Iowa State, Kansas and Baylor in the standings, right around the middle of the pack. After beating Utah and UCF to finish off the regular season, West Virginia took a disappointing loss to Colorado in the conference tournament on March 12 by a score of 67-60.
In their matchup versus Mount St. Mary’s on Tuesday, the Mountaineers held a modest six-point edge at the break. West Virginia hit a 35-25 run the rest of the way however, ending up with a win 70-54. Jasper Flooyd had 25 points with four assists to top the team, and Bremen Lorient doubled up on 11 points and 13 rebounds in the victory.

Campbell vs West Virginia Prediction
I’ll take a stab on Campbell in this one. The Camels had a tricky opener matchup against Wisconsin at Kohl Center this week, but all things considered they didn’t play too badly. Campbell had a sloppy 19 turnovers to the Badgers’ nine and got beat up on points in the paint 46-32. The 3-point shooting wasn’t great either (5-of-19 for 26.3 percent) and Wisconsin did pretty much whatever they wanted offensively. Still, the Camels stood tall on the boards and could look decent here if they can clean up the mistakes.
As for West Virginia, they started out a bit slowly in their win over Mount St. Mary’s and didn’t necessarily dominate. WVU shot a tepid 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from 3-point range and 23-of-35 (65.7 percent) from the line alongside a 33-25 rebounding deficit and a mild 30-26 edge in the paint. The Mountaineers did get 13 steals off 18 Mount St. Mary’s turnovers though, which helped a lot. I’d like to see West Virginia sharpen up a lot here, otherwise Campbell should be able to get into a cover if they can keep the shooting percentage high and stay competitive up front.
