We will examine the recent form and player performances for both teams, as well as the recent betting trends and streaks pertaining to this matchup. As we conclude, we will tie it all together with a summary that produces a sensible pick for a favorable betting outcome in this game.
Campbell Fighting Camels Betting Preview
The Camels were just one game above .500 at 9-8 back in early January, then hit a five-game losing streak that set them back to 9-13. Wins over William & Mary, Drexel, North Carolina A&T and William & Mary again came in the next five games, then losses to UNC Wilmington, Drexel and Towson. Since then it’s been wins over North Carolina A&T and Stony Brook.
On Saturday versus Stony Brook in the tournament game, the Camels were in good shape at the break with a 48-40 edge on the scoreboard. Campbell finished off with a 49-48 run the rest of the way and took the victory in the end 96-89. Jeremiah Johnson led the team with 20 points and seven rebounds while DJ Smith added 18 points with three boards and three steals.
UNC Wilmington Seahawks Betting Preview
Over on the Seahawks’ side, they opened up on a nice 17-2 clip through their first 19 games, then lost to William & Mary twice over the next four outings. The Seahawks beat Charleston, Elon, Hofstra, Monmouth, Campbell and North Carolina A&T before another loss to Charleston. After beating Elon this week, the Seahawks are sitting at 26-5 overall this year.
In the Tuesday matchup with Elon the Seahawks left the floor after the first half looking up at a 35-24 advantage on the scoreboard. UNC Wilmington kept it going in the second half with a 41-33 run and took the eventual victory on the road in the end 76-57. Christian May put up 22 points with 10 rebounds and three assists in a double-double as the team’s leading scorer.
Campbell vs UNC Wilmington Prediction
I’ll lean toward the Seahawks I suppose but it’s a coin flip. UNC Wilmington didn’t have much issue with a struggling Elon team this week in a road victory, hitting a nice 50.8 percent from the field with a 37-31 rebounding edge. It wasn’t perfect though, as the Seahawks hit just three of their nine tries from the line and had 14 turnovers in the win. UNC Wilmington needed a good performance after the home loss to Charleston last weekend, and they’re now 7-1 over the last eight outings.
These teams have met up twice this year with UNC Wilmington taking both games. The first was 78-75 at home on January 17, then came a 73-68 road win on February 21. In that road victory the Seahawks didn’t shoot well on 36.1 percent from the field and just 60.6 percent (20-of-33) from the line. UNCW had a 42-32 rebounding edge but also got outscored in the paint 32-22. You wouldn’t be crazy for taking the Camels in this one; if Campbell plays well we’ll have a great matchup.
