Binghamton Bearcats Betting Preview
Binghamton had a nice run going in December, but aside from that they’ve struggled this year. The Bearcats lost to Penn State, Miami, Fordham, Longwood, Central Connecticut, and Niagara over their first eight outings. A 7-1 run with wins over Long Island U, Lafayette, Le Moyne, Lancaster Bible College, Mercyhurst, Army, and UMBC (with a loss to Marist) came next. Since then Binghamton is just 3-6 in their last nine outings. The wins came versus Vermont, Albany, and UMass Lowell. Otherwise, it’s been losses to Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Albany, and Bryant (twice), giving the Bearcats a spotty 12-13 overall run through their first 25 outings.
In the Bryant rematch at home over the weekend, the Bearcats entered the second half with a 38-32 deficit. Binghamton didn’t end up getting any closer than that in the second half, posting a 40-39 run the rest of the way during a 78-71 loss in the end. Leading team scorer Tymu Chenery had 18 points with six boards, while Evan Ashe came off the bench to contribute 17 points with one rebound and one steal in 22 minutes of action.
UMBC Retrievers Betting Preview
On the UMBC side, they’ve had quite a choppy season as well and are also sitting below the .500 mark overall. The Retrievers lost to Penn State, Saint Peter’s, Hampton, and Boston U in their first seven games, then took out Howard, Morgan State, Towson, and Cairn University during a 4-1 run over the next five outings (with a loss to Georgetown otherwise). UMBC has won just four games since then over American U, NJIT, Albany, and Vermont. The losses in that stretch otherwise have come versus Georgia Tech, Marist, Binghamton, New Hampshire, Maine, Bryant, UMass Lowell, New Hampshire, and Maine in succession for an 11-14 record so far this season in the books for the Retrievers.
Matched up against Maine in their road rematch on Saturday, the Retrievers held a rough 27-17 deficit going into the second half. UMBC was outscored further 46-33 from there and lost 73-50 in the end. Bryce Johnson led the team with his 14 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal as the only player on the team to finish in double-figures.

Binghamton vs UMBC Prediction
I’ll lean toward Binghamton in this one. There’s not a lot to like about this game, but it should at least be competitive. The Bearcats couldn’t catch a middling Bryant team in their last outing, shooting just 37.5 percent from the field with a 45-38 rebounding deficit. If there’s good news it’s that Binghamton took very good care of the ball on only four turnovers. That said, the defeat halts a three-game win streak for the Bearcats and halts any momentum they had.
Back on January 4 when these teams last saw each other, Binghamton managed to power out an 87-82 win at home. In that one, both teams shot well (over 55 percent) but the Bearcats controlled things with a 34-22 rebounding edge. Binghamton did cough up 10 turnovers for 14 Retrievers points though, so they’ll need to control the mistakes in this road rematch. I like the Bearcats to pull off the win/cover here, but it may not be pretty.
