SE Louisiana Lions Betting Preview

SE Louisiana limped to a 5-14 run over their first 19 games this year. After a win over Nicholls came losses to McNeese, Stephen F. Austin and Lamar, then wins over Houston Christian and Incarnate Word. The next four were all losses as well. The Lions fell to Northwestern State, East Texas A&M, UTRGV and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in that time for an 8-21 record in 29 games.

On Saturday in the rematch with Nicholls, the Lions were trailing by two points 33-31 going into the locker room at the break. Southeastern LA was outscored 35-29 the rest of the way, so they didn’t end up getting any closer in a 68-60 loss on the road. The only player to finish in double-digits was CJ Booker with 12 points, two rebounds and four assists in 26 minutes of action.

New Orleans Privateers Betting Preview

Over on the New Orleans side, they managed to win seven of their first 20 games this season. The Privateers then beat Nicholls, Northwestern State and East Texas A&M before a 1-2 run that featured losses to UTRGV and Houston Christian. After that came wins over Incarnate Word, Lamar and Stephen F. Austin. In 29 games that would give the Privateers a 14-15 run.

Matched up against McNeese over the weekend, the Privateers were outscored 39-29 by the end of the first half. New Orleans rallied in the second half and made a game of it on a 34-27 run but still came up short in the end 66-63. Kedrick Osby led the charge on 16 points with three rebounds and one steal while Coleton Benson added 10 points with five rebounds in the loss.

SE Louisiana vs New Orleans Prediction

I’ll stay with New Orleans. The Privateers didn’t shoot very well (37.7 percent) in their loss at home to a good McNeese team over the weekend. New Orleans hit just 14.3 percent (3-of-21) from outside and had 14 turnovers. The good news is that the Privateers had a sizable 37-26 rebounding edge and held the Cowboys to a reasonable 42.1 percent shooting on defense. New Orleans is still 3-1 in their last four games, scoring 77 or more points in three of those.

These teams last saw each other back on January 12 in a 79-72 road win for the Privateers. In that one New Orleans shot a pretty solid 44.7 percent from the field with 79.5 percent (31-of-39) from the line and a 39-31 rebounding edge. The Privateers held the Lions to just 36.1 percent shooting from the field but didn’t help their cause with 14 turnovers. In theory at least, the home rematch should go a bit smoother for New Orleans.

Andrew Jett's Pick: New Orleans Privateers -7
