Arkansas State Red Wolves Betting Preview

Arkansas State posted a .500 record over their first six games, then took wins over Jacksonville State, North Dakota State, Texas-Arlington, Little Rock, Texas State, Southern Miss and Arkansas Tech in the next eight outings. A 2-3 run came next however, featuring losses to James Madison, South Alabama and Troy. Over the first 19 games of the year that would give the Red Wolves a 12-7 run.

On Thursday versus Georgia Southern, the Red Wolves carried a four-point advantage 39-35 into the second half. Arkansas State hit a 46-33 run the rest of the way, eventually powering out an 85-68 win in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Joey Chammaa with 15 points, six assists and five rebounds. Jalen Hampton doubled up on 14 rebounds and 10 points as well.

Georgia State Panthers Betting Preview

Over on the Georgia State side, they had a bad opening run but they’ve been better lately. The Panthers lost nine of their first 10 games this season, but then hit a 6-3 stretch over the next nine. The wins in that time came versus Jacksonville State, App State, Columbia College SC, Coastal Carolina, Marshall and LA-Monroe. Over 19 games this season that gave the Panthers a 7-12 record in the books.

Matched up against Southern Miss on Thursday, the Panthers were down by two points in the locker room 32-30. Georgia State came back in the second half with a 39-30 run though, and eventually powered out the win 69-62. Jelani Hamilton led the charge with his 23 points and seven rebounds. Micah Tucker added 14 points with four assists and three rebounds in the victory effort.

Arkansas State vs Georgia State Prediction

I’ll go with Arkansas State. The Red Wolves put on a pretty nice showing versus Georgia Southern this week, shooting 49.1 percent from the field with 82.6 percent (19-of-23) from the line and a 40-30 rebounding advantage. It wasn’t perfect though, as Arkansas State coughed up 15 turnovers along the way. The Red Wolves had lost consecutive games (both on the road) prior to that, giving up a combined 190 points in that pair.

As for Georgia State, they shot just 35.7 percent from the field with 13 turnovers in their win over Southern Miss this week. The Panthers did well on the boards though, with a 41-29 advantage. Georgia State has won three straight games with 69 or more points scored in each of those, so they may not go quietly in this matchup.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Arkansas State Red Wolves -5.5
