Grambling State Tigers Betting Preview
The Tigers have had a rough season overall, but they’ve come on strong over the last four games. Grambling State opened on a pretty rough 3-13 run with wins over only Southern-New Orleans, Arkansas Baptist and College of Biblical Studies. Wins over Florida A&M, Mississippi Valley State and AR-Pine Bluff came in the next four outings (with a loss to Southern), then a 3-3 run that featured wins over Alabama State, Alabama A&M and Prairie View among losses to Jackson State, Alcorn State and Texas Southern. The Tigers closed the regular season on a 1-4 run with losses to Southern Florida A&M, Bethune Cookman and Alabama State, but they were able to beat Alabama A&M in a tournament matchup on Tuesday before their Wednesday win over Southern. That gives the Tigers a record of 12-21 overall so far this year.
On Wednesday versus Southern, Grambling was down 29-21 going into the second half, but fought back to force overtime. After a 16-13 run in the extra period, Grambling came away with a stunning upset win 65-62 to stay alive. Mikale Stevenson led the team with his 17 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Kintavious Dozier added 11 points with five rebounds and five assists alongside four steals, and James Flippin had 10 points in 31 minutes.

Alabama State Hornets Betting Preview
Over on the Alabama State side, they were looking pretty rough back in early February, but they’ve really come alive since then. The Hornets were just 9-14 on February 8, then beat Southern, AR-Pine Bluff, MS Valley State and Florida A&M before a loss to Bethune-Cookman. Since then Alabama State has hit another win streak. In those four games the Hornets have dispatched Alabama A&M, Southern, Grambling and Texas Southern in succession. That gives Alabama State a total record of 17-15 through 32 games so far this season.
Matched up Thursday versus Texas Southern, the Hornets scored 41 in the first half and 43 in the second for an 84-79 win. D’Ante Bass came off the bench to lead the team on 16 points with eight boards and three assists.

Grambling vs Alabama State Prediction
I might take a stab on Grambling here. The Tigers have mustered up a couple of nice wins in the tournament so far, including a gutsy victory over a heavily-favored Southern squad on Wednesday. Grambling shot a miserable 32.2 percent from the field with a 52-36 rebounding deficit and 14 turnovers in that one, but their defense was great. Grambling held Southern to just 31.9 percent shooting on the other side and scored 23 points off 21 turnovers. That defensive dominance needs to continue in game three, as Grambling isn’t the highest-scoring team in the world this year. They’ve been below 68 points in three of the last four.
These teams split the two regular-season games this year, with Grambling winning on the road 77-67 on February 8 and the Hornets returning the favor 59-47 last Saturday. In that most recent matchup, Grambling was outscored 37-23 in the second half and never really got the offense going on 32.7 percent shooting. The 43-34 rebounding deficit and 14 turnovers didn’t help either. Needless to say, the Tigers need a lot to go right in this third matchup, but I think they can pull it off if the score stays low.
