Davidson Wildcats Betting Preview

The Wildcats didn’t start off the year too badly, but they’ve been struggling since mid-January. Davidson was 12-4 back on January 11, then took losses to La Salle, Rhode Island, Saint Joseph’s, George Mason, and Dayton in the next six outings. Wins over Richmond, UMass, and Fordham (alongside losses to George Washington and Loyola Chicago) came in the next five, then four straight losses to Saint Louis, VCU, Loyola, and St. Bonaventure before a tournament win over Richmond. In total that gives the Wildcats a 17-15 record over 32 games this year.

On Wednesday versus Richmond, Davidson was up by two points at the break. The Wildcats hit a 35-33 run the rest of the way to take the tournament victory 69-65. Reed Bailey led the way with his 25 points with two rebounds and two assists, while Connor Kochera had 22 points with six rebounds and five assists.

Saint Louis Billikens Betting Preview

Over on the Saint Louis side, they’ve had a few spotty runs this year but overall they’re not doing too badly in the record column. The Billikens went a tepid 6-6 in their first dozen outings, then took out William Woods, Fordham, Saint Joseph’s, St. Bonaventure, Richmond, and La Salle in the next seven games. A 2-5 stretch came next with losses to George Washington, Dayton, Saint Joseph’s, George Mason, and Loyola. Since then it’s been a 4-1 run with wins over Rhode Island, Davidson, Loyola, and Duquesne. In total that gives the Billikens an 18-13 record across 31 games this year.

In their home game versus Duquesne back on Saturday, the Billikens were down 40-38 going into the second half. St. Louis managed to force overtime, however, and walked away with a 90-88 win in the end. Gibson Jimerson led the team with 35 points with eight boards and two assists. Robbie Avila added 22 points with seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals in 44 minutes—but did cough up 10 turnovers along the way.

Davidson vs Saint Louis Prediction

I’ll probably just stay with Saint Louis here. The Billikens had a little trouble shaking off a struggling Duquesne team in their last outing though, so they’ll need to be sharper this time. Saint Louis shot a nice 59.3 percent from the field with a 34-30 rebounding edge in that one but also gave up 18 turnovers for a whopping 26 Dukes points. That’s not going to cut it in tournament play. The good news is that St. Louis has won four of the last five with 81 or more points in three of the four wins.

These teams last met back on February 25 in a 57-56 road win for the Billikens. Saint Louis posted a tepid 41.8 percent shooting in that one but also held the Wildcats to just 37.9 percent on the other side. The Billikens also boasted a 38-32 rebounding edge but did cough up 11 turnovers for 13 points. I’d like to see the Billikens assert themselves a little earlier in this rematch, as they were down 27-18 at halftime in that last matchup. Should be a fun game overall.

Andrew’s Pick Saint Louis Billikens -2.5
