Western Michigan Broncos Betting Preview

The Broncos have a couple of decent runs this year, but overall they’ve been piling up the losses wildly. Western Michigan went 3-4 in their first seven games, falling versus Coastal Carolina, Butler, SIU Edwardsville, and South Dakota. A losing streak versus Dayton, St. Thomas MN, North Dakota State, Valparaiso, Michigan State, Toledo, Bowling Green, and Miami-OH came next, then a 4-2 stretch. The two losses in that time were versus Buffalo and Central Michigan. Otherwise, it’s been wins over Kent State, Northern Illinois, Ball State, and Eastern Michigan in that stretch, giving the Broncos a 7-14 overall run so far this year.

In the Eastern Michigan game on Saturday, the Broncos came out of the break with a 23-18 halftime edge. Western Michigan kept it up in the second half with a 38-3 run and took the eventual win 61-54 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Chansey Willis with 16 points, three boards, and two assists. JaVaughn Hannah chipped in with 11 points, five rebounds and one steal. Donovan Williams added 10 rebounds and nine points as well.

Ohio Bobcats Betting Preview

Over on the Ohio side, they had a nice run of games stretching from November into January, however, that’s been bookended by some rough runs. The Bobcats opened on a 2-5 stretch with losses to James Madison, Illinois State, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, and Texas State. An 8-1 run came after that with wins over Robert Morris, Morehead State, Austin Peay, Muskingum, Central Michigan, Buffalo, Northern Illinois, and Ball State. Next was a 1-4 run however, featuring a lone win over Kent State in the middle of losses to Akron, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, and Miami-OH, giving the Bobcats an 11-10 overall run so far this year.

Matched up against Miami-OH on Saturday, the Bobcats held a nine-point deficit by halftime. Ohio got better in the second half and made a run 43-38, but ultimately lost 73-69 in the end. Leading team scorer Shereef Mitchell posted 20 points with two rebounds and three steals. AJ Brown put up 15 points with three rebounds and two assists, while Vic Searls had seven points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort.

Western Michigan vs Ohio Prediction

I’ll stick with Western Michigan. The Broncos played a pretty sloppy game in their win over Eastern Michigan over the weekend, but still got the job done. WMU shot just 38.6 percent from the field with 13 turnovers for 12 Eagles points. Conversely, the Broncos held EMU to just 36.5 percent shooting and scored 15 points off their 15 turnovers. It was an odd game. In any case, Western Michigan is looking better these days following a miserable first couple of months. The Broncos have scored 70 or more points in seven of their last nine games and should be able to post a solid total here as well.

As for Ohio, they’ve notched 69 or more points in seven of their last eight games themselves—a 4-4 run. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a fairly high total here, but I like Western Michigan to carve out the cover in the end during an entertaining matchup.

Andrew’s Pick Western Michigan Broncos +9.5
