Vanderbilt Commodores Betting Preview

The Commodores opened up the season on a great run, but they’ve had some issues in the win column since early January. Vanderbilt won 13 of their first 14 games this year, beating Maryland Eastern Shore, Southeast Missouri State, Cal, Jackson State, Nevada, Seton Hall, Tennessee Tech, Virginia Tech, TCU, the Citadel, Austin Peay, New Orleans, and LSU in that time. Since then, however, the Commodores have been choppy 3-4 in their last seven. Those wins have been over South Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky with losses versus Mississippi State, Missouri, Alabama, and Oklahoma otherwise for a 16-5 overall run through 21 games so far.

In the Oklahoma matchup on Saturday, the Commodores were doing well in the first half with a 40-36 advantage. Vanderbilt was outscored 61-27 the rest of the way however, resulting in a 97-67 blowout loss. Leading team scorer Devin McGlockton put up 22 points with three boards in the defeat, and Jason Edwards added 21 points with three rebounds in 27 minutes of work.

Florida Gators Betting Preview

Over on the Gators’ side, they’ve been able to maintain form pretty well this year. Florida has yet to lose consecutive games. Wins over South Florida, Jacksonville, Grambling, Florida State, Florida A&M, Southern Illinois, Wake Forest, Wichita State, Virginia, Arizona State, North Carolina, North Florida, and Stetson came in the first 13 outings, then a 2-2 stretch. Those losses were versus Kentucky and Missouri around wins over Tennessee and Arkansas. Since then it’s been wins over Texas, South Carolina, and Georgia ahead of a loss to Tennessee. The result so far has been an 18-3 overall run for the Gators in 21 games.

In their rematch versus Tennessee on the road Saturday, the Gators held a three-point deficit at the break. Florida was outpaced 40-23 the rest of the way and ended up losing 64-44 in the end. Tops in scoring (and the only player on the team to finish in double-figures) was Walter Clayton with 10 points, two rebounds and one steal in 27 minutes of work on the court.

Vanderbilt vs Florida Prediction

I’m going to take a crack on Vanderbilt here. The Commodores do need a good bounce-back effort here after an ugly second half in their loss to Oklahoma, though. Vanderbilt ended up shooting just 38.7 percent from the field in that one while allowing 63.2 percent on the other side along with a 39-24 rebounding deficit. The 15 turnovers for 18 Sooners points didn’t help matters, either. Vanderbilt hadn’t been playing too badly prior to that, however, with a 3-1 run including wins over Tennessee and Kentucky.

As for Florida, they were demolished in the second half by Tennessee over the weekend and couldn’t buy a bucket. The Gators ended up shooting just 24.5 percent from the field with a 40-37 rebounding deficit and 13 turnovers for nine Vols points in that defeat. Florida didn’t play too badly on defense all things considered, but it wasn’t much of an effort. The Gators had posted 70 or more points in three straight wins prior to that, so I’d assume they’ll bounce back here. If Vanderbilt can follow along though, I think the Commodores can get in there.
