Minnesota Golden Gophers Betting Preview
The Golden Gophers opened up their 2024-25 season on a very solid run, but they’ve since run into some difficult matchups and their record has suffered accordingly. Minnesota beat Oral Roberts, Omaha, Yale, Cleveland State, and Central Michigan (with a lone loss to North Texas) over their first six games. A 1-4 stretch came after that, with a win over Bethune-Cookman amid losses to Wichita State, Wake Forest, Michigan State, and Indiana. The Gophers would beat Fairleigh Dickinson and Morgan State in the next pair before losses to Purdue, Ohio State, and Wisconsin in succession over the next trio for a .500 record through 16 games thus far.
In the Wisconsin game back on Friday, Minnesota entered the second half holding a 30-29 deficit. The Gophers were blitzed in the second half 50-30 however, and ended up losing in a blowout 80-59 in the end. Leading the team in scoring (and the only player in double-figures) was Dawson Garcia with a double-double on 22 points and 10 boards. Femi Odukale chipped in with eight points, four assists, and seven rebounds in 28 minutes of work, and Brennan Rigsby added seven points with one rebound in 12 minutes off the bench.
Maryland Terrapins Betting Preview
Over on the Terrapins’ side, they got off to a very nice start as well this year, but they’ve been choppier lately. Maryland opened on an 8-1 run with a lone loss to Marquette in that time. The Terrapins otherwise beat Manhattan, Mount St. Mary’s, Florida A&M, Canisius, Villanova, Bucknell, Alcorn State, and Ohio State in that time. A 3-3 stretch came after that with wins over St Francis PA, Syracuse, and Maryland Eastern Shore amid losses to Purdue, Washington, and Oregon. The Terrapins would recover on a win over UCLA for a 12-4 overall record.
Matched up against UCLA in Friday’s outing, the Terrapins came into the locker room holding a 40-36 edge. Maryland stayed strong in the second half on a 39-25 run and took the eventual win 79-61 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Ja’Kobi Gillespie with 27 points, four assists, and four steals. Julian Reese managed to double up on 16 points, 10 boards, two blocks, and three steals. Coming off the bench to provide eight points with two rebounds and two blocks in 14 minutes of action was Tafara Gapare, and Selton Miguel added 11 points.

Minnesota vs Maryland Prediction
I’ll stay with Maryland. The Terrapins handled a good UCLA team quite well in their last outing. Maryland notched a nice 54 percent shooting from the field in that one with 18-of-21 (85.7 percent) from the line but did get out-rebounded 30-25. Maryland coughed up 16 turnovers for 20 Bruins points as well, so it wasn’t a perfect outing. Still, considering the Terrapins have 69 or more points in every game so far this year, it’s safe to say they can play with just about everybody if all goes to plan.
As for Minnesota, they’ve played some tricky teams lately and have been below 62 points in two of the last three games (a 0-3 run). The Gophers should provide a solid challenge here, but in the end, I like the Terrapins to power out the cover and keep things rolling along.
