The Grambling Tigers and the Purdue Boilermakers meet Friday in the college basketball NCAA Tournament First Round at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Grambling vs. Purdue Prediction.
Grambling Team Preview
The Grambling Tigers come into this game after picking up a first four win over Montana State by a final score of 88-81 in OT. Kintavious Dozier leads the Tigers in scoring with 13.2 PPG while Tra’Michael Moton has 11.4 PPG and 2.4 APG to lead the Tigers in assists. Antwan Burnett has 10.3 PPG and 6.4 RPG in 22 games to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Grambling up to this point in the year. As a team, Grambling is averaging 67.4 PPG on 43.9% shooting from the field, 33.2% from three and 71.3% from the foul line this season.
Purdue Team Preview
The Purdue Boilermakers come into the NCAA tournament on behalf of the Big Ten after finishing the year with an overall record of 29-4. Although Purdue finished the regular season above Illinois and Nebraska, they lost the conference semi-final to Wisconsin. Zach Edey leads the Boilermakers in scoring and rebounding with 24.4 PPG and 11.7 RPG, averaging a double-double per game while Fletcher Loyer has 10.4 PPG and Braden Smith also has 12.5 PPG with 5.8 RPG and a team-high 7.3 APG and 1.6 SPG to lead the Boilermakers in assists and steals. Lance Jones has 12.2 PPG, capping off the group of double-digit scorers for Purdue so far this season while Zach Edey has 2.2 BPG as well this season. As a team, Purdue is averaging 83.4 PPG on 48.8% shooting from the field, 40.8% from three and 72.1% from the foul line this season.
Grambling vs. Purdue Prediction
I’m on Purdue here. There’s the obvious angle of Purdue looking to avenge their humiliating loss as the 1-seed to Fairleigh Dickinson last year, but I just think Grambling’s overmatched here across the board. This game is almost a home game as well for Purdue, being just over one hour from the Mackey Arena where Purdue plays their home games. I just don’t see Grambling keeping this thing close. Give me the Boilers here. The Boilermakers will likely go through to the next round, where they should meet TCU or Utah State.
