Michigan State Spartans Betting Preview

The Spartans got off to a rocky 4-5 start this year but were able to crawl back to 17-9 by mid-February. Michigan State finished off the regular season on a rough 1-4 run though, falling to Iowa, Ohio State, Purdue and Indiana before a conference tournament victory over Minnesota.

In their second outing of the Big Ten Tournament last Friday, the Spartans took a loss to Purdue. Michigan State was down 34-27 by halftime and couldn’t make the comeback in an eventual 67-62 result. Tyson Walker was the leading team scorer with 15 points and two rebounds.

Over on the Mississippi State side, they had a rough 3-6 stretch in January/February before a five-game win streak got them back to 19-8 overall. The Bulldogs closed on four straight losses to finish the regular season, then took out LSU and Tennessee in the conference tournament.

The Bulldogs’ run came to an end on Saturday versus Auburn. Mississippi State kept the pace on a 31-31 run in the first half, then got outscored 42-35 the rest of the way in a 73-66 result. Josh Hubbard led the team on 20 points, and Tolu Smith doubled with 10 points and 10 boards.

Michigan State vs Mississippi State Prediction

I’ll take a stab on Mississippi State here. The Bulldogs had a bad second half against Auburn in their latest loss but were able to keep the pace before that. Mississippi State finished with a tepid 41.1 percent from the field and 20 percent from 3-point range though, along with 17-of-27 (63 percent) from the line and 14 turnovers. There’s certainly plenty to clean up before this national tournament matchup, but the Bulldogs have been playing well overall lately.

As for Michigan State, they shot just 39.3 percent from the field and 22.2 percent from outside against a good Purdue team in their latest matchup. The Spartans have been below 65 points in three of the last four games (a 2-2 run) but to be fair they’ve played some tricky teams in that quartet. Mississippi State will be another tough matchup, and I like the Bulldogs to pull off the cover/win in the end. Should be a fun one to watch regardless.
