St. Joseph’s Hawks Betting Preview

The Hawks managed a 15-7 run through their first 22 games this year. Next came a sketchy 3-5 run, but St. Joseph’s was able to finish off the regular season with a win over Davidson. Following wins over George Mason and Richmond in the conference tournament, the Hawks lost to VCU.

In their Saturday matchup with the Rams, the Hawks were up 25-23 going into the second half. Saint Joseph’s faltered after that however, hitting a 43-35 run for a 66-60 loss in the end. Tops in scoring was Erik Reynolds with 18 points, four assists and two rebounds.

Seton Hall Pirates

Over on the Seton Hall side, they posted a 13-8 run in their first 21 outings. The Pirates would improve on a 7-3 run over their next 10 games, falling to only Villanova, Creighton and UConn in that time. Last Thursday versus St. John’s, Seton Hall took another loss.

Matched up against the Red Storm in their most recent game, Seton Hall took a five-point deficit into the second half. The Pirates didn’t end up getting any closer on a 46-32 deficit from there and lost 91-72. Al-Amir Dawes topped the team in the losing effort with 22 points, three rebounds and two steals.

I’ll lean toward Saint Joseph’s in this one. The Hawks haven’t scored especially well lately though, hitting 66 or fewer points in four of the last five games. Saint Joseph’s has been solid on the defensive side though, giving up 66 or fewer in three straight.

As for the Pirates, they didn’t play very well in the St. John’s game, giving up 51.6 percent from the field and getting out-rebounded 39-29. The 14 turnovers for 22 Red Storm points didn’t help matters, either. Nor did the 14-of-21 (66.7 percent) from the line. That said, Seton Hall can score pretty well when the matchup is right. They’ve hit 72 or more points in consecutive games and played some pretty tough teams prior to that in Creighton and UConn. This one’s probably going to be close, but I think the Hawks have enough defense to keep the pace.
