Colorado State Preview: Will the Rams Make the Mountain West Proud?
Colorado State comes in at 22-9 after losing to New Mexico in the Mountain West Semifinals, 74-61. The Rams were outplayed in both halves by the Lobos, and they’ll look to secure their second victory over the ACC here against the Cavaliers. CSU is scoring 76.7 points per game, on 49.3% shooting, while allowing 68.4 ppg, and they’re 5-5 over their previous ten games.
Colorado State Team Profile

- Senior forward Joel Scott has hit the 16-point mark in four of the last five games, and he’s second on the team at 12.5 ppg and 5.9 rpg.
- Colorado Springs native Nique Clifford has snagged 9 boards or more in five straight contests, and he leads the Rams in rebounding (7.3), while averaging 12.5 ppg.
Virginia Preview: Can the Cavaliers Capitalize?
Virginia also enters at 22-9 after losing to N.C. State in the ACC Semifinals, 73-65. The Cavaliers were outlasted by the Wolfpack in overtime, and they’ll try to avenge last year’s upset by getting into the Field of 64 this Tuesday. UVA is scoring 63.5 points per game, on 43.7% shooting, while allowing 59.6 ppg, and they’re 5-5 over their last ten games.

Colorado State vs Virginia Prediction: Spread
Kudos to the Mountain West for nabbing six spots in the Field after an eventful conference tournament slate, but one half of this matchup feels out of place. It’s bittersweet to go against home soil, but Virginia shouldn’t have received the nod to redeem themselves over a handful of worthy schools, and I like putting that to the test here. UVA capitalized on a down year in the ACC, while CSU put together two strong portions of the season, and the latter should have no trouble getting up for this game. The spotlight is on the Mountain West, so let’s see if Colorado State can answer the call here on Tuesday night.
Colorado State vs Virginia Prediction: Total
The total on this game continues to rise, as the 118.5-mark is historically low for a NCAA Tournament game. It’s very possible Virginia attempts to put Colorado State to sleep with a very slow-paced game, so while a low-scoring bout isn’t out of the question, the magic number is still in an attainable spot. Colorado State only had four games surface this number all season, and those were against defensive-minded SDSU, Creighton, and Boise State squads, so if they can dictate the pace of this game, the Over may worth taking a chance on.
