The Colorado Buffaloes and the Utah Utes will meet in the Quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Tournament this Thursday night  in Las Vegas from the T-Mobile Arena on the Pac-12 Network.  Colorado enters as 3.5-point favorites, with the total hovering 153.5. Stay tuned for our Utah vs Colorado Prediction.

Utah Preview: Utes Need a Victory to Remain Alive

Utah moved to 19-13 after defeating Arizona State in the first round, 90-57. The Utes advanced to the quarterfinals with an assertive victory over ASU, and they’ll attempt to replicate those results here against the Buffs. Utah is scoring 78.7 points per game, on 47.0% shooting, while allowing 72.7 ppg, and they’re 4-6 over their previous ten games.

Utah Team Profile

  • Craig Smith’s team prefers an up-tempo style, averaging 73.2 possessions per game (67th), and they shoot 35.7% from beyond the arc.
  • Veteran big man Branden Carlson poured in a career-best 40 points in the Oregon State matchup, and he leads Utah in scoring (17.5) and rebounding (7.0).
  • Senior guard Gabe Madsen has knocked down three triples or more in four straight games,  and he’s second on the team at 13.2 ppg.
  • Georgia Tech transfer Deivon Smith has dished out ten dimes or more in four of the last five games, and he’s posting a line of 12.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg, and a team-leading 6.8 apg.

Colorado Preview: Buffaloes Rumbling Into the Tournament On Fire

Colorado closed at 22-9 after defeating Oregon State in Corvallis, 73-57. The Buffaloes ended the regular season on a strong note with the road victory over the Beavers, and they’ll look to improve their seeding in the Big Dance here in Vegas. Colorado is scoring 80.6 points per game, on 49.9% shooting, while allowing 72.1 ppg, and they’re 7-3 over their previous ten games.

Colorado Team Profile

  • Tad Boyke’s team likes to play an uptempo style, averaging just 72.7 possessions per game (95th), and they’re knocking down 39.8 of their treys.
  • Junior guard KJ Simpson has caught fire down the stretch, and after scoring 22 points or more in four straight contests, he leads Colorado in scoring (19.9) and assists (4.8), while grabbing 5.6 rpg.
  • Munich native Tristan da Silva led the way with a 27-point double-double in the win over Stanford, and he’s up to 16.2 ppg and 5.6 rpg.
  • Veteran guard J’Vonne Hadley tallied 20 points in the Utah victory, and averaging 11.9 ppg and 5.9 rpg.
  • TCU transfer Eddie Lampkin Jr. leads CU in rebounding (7.0), while scoring 10.0 ppg.

Utah vs Colorado Trends

  • UTA is 15-17 against the spread, with a 15-15-2 O/U record
  • COL is 13-16-2 ATS, with a 19-12 over/under record.

Utah vs Colorado Prediction

Utah looked sharp against Arizona State, but after being the most inconsistent team in the conference, we may see different results here against Colorado. The Buffaloes are real sleepers to win this tournament, as the field is truly wide open, and I believe they remain alive here against the Utes. Colorado enters as winners of six straight games, so let’s back them to move on to the semis with a seventh consecutive victory this Thursday night.
