The Stanford Cardinal and the Washington State Cougars meet Thursday in Pac-12 Tournament college basketball action from T-Mobile Arena. Let’s get into our Stanford vs Washington State prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Pick Dawgz.
Stanford Cardinal
The Cardinal haven’t had a whole lot of consistent success this year, but they’re still standing. Stanford started out on a 12-11 run, then fell to Washington State, Washington, Oregon, Oregon State, Utah and Colorado late in the year. The Cardinal would bounce back with a win over California in the last game of the regular season.
On Wednesday versus California in the tournament rematch, the Cardinal were in trouble with a 45-34 deficit by halftime. Stanford fought back with 35 second-half points to force OT, then surged on 18 more points for an 87-76 win. Leading scorer Maxime Raynaud put up 21 points with 13 rebounds in the victory.
Washington State Cougars
Over on the Cougars’ side, they had a rough 2-4 run in December/January but otherwise played well in a 21-6 opening run. Washington State is 2-2 in their last four games with a pair of wins over USC and UCLA in between losses to Arizona State and Washington in that quartet.
In the Washington matchup last Thursday, Washington State was within two points going into the second half. The Cougars were outscored 42-38 the rest of the way however and lost 74-68 in the end. Leading team scorer Isaac Jones finished on 20 points with 10 rebounds for a double-double.
ANDREW’S FREE STANFORD VS WASHINGTON STATE PREDICTION
I’ll probably stay with Washington State here. The Cougars didn’t play all that well in their last matchup versus Washington, though. In that one Washington State shot a tepid 39.4 percent from the field and just 16.4 percent (4-of-24) from 3-point range. The rebounding was good (44), but the 12 turnovers for 14 Huskies points didn’t help matters.
In their last meeting on February 17, Washington State secured a 72-59 victory over the Cardinal. The Cougars held a 37-21 rebounding advantage in that one (13-6 offensive) and shot a nice 47.2 percent from the field. Stanford did get off to a hot start and led at the break, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Cardinal hang around for a while here. I don’t think they’ll get too close, though.
Andrew’s Pick Washington State Cougars -8.5
