The Jackson State Tigers and the Texas Southern Tigers meet Thursday in the college basketball SWAC Tournament Quarterfinals at the Bartow Arena. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Jackson State vs. Texas Southern prediction.
Jackson State Team Preview
The Jackson State Tigers come into the conference tournament as the 6-seed, finishing the year 15-16 overall including an 11-7 mark in SWAC conference play. Ken Evans Jr. leads the Tigers in scoring with 18.9 PPG along with 5.5 RPG and 2.9 APG while Jordan O’Neal has 12.7 PPG with 6.1 RPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Jackson State so far this season. Zeke Cook has 6.7 RPG to lead the Tigers on the glass and Chase Adams has 9.5 PPG and a team-high 4.2 APG as well on the year. As a team, Jackson State is averaging 71.5 PPG on 41.9% shooting from the field, 32.9% from three and 70.3% from the foul line this season.
Texas Southern Team Preview
The Texas Southern Tigers come into the conference tournament as the 3-seed, finishing the year 14-15 overall including a 12-6 mark in conference play. PJ Henry leads the Tigers in scoring with 15.3 PPG with 2.8 RPG and 2.6 APG while Jonathan Cisse has 12.8 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Texas Southern so far this season. As a team, Texas Southern is averaging 70.1 PPG on 41.2% shooting from the field, 32.1% from behind the three-point line and 71.2% from the foul line so far this season.
Jackson State vs. Texas Southern Prediction
I’m leaning towards Texas Southern here. Both teams come into the conference tournament in decent form, but the difference for me is that Texas Southern is the far better team on the defensive end of the floor in conference play, and Texas Southern’s also a lot more consistent offensively from 3-point and 2-point range as well. I just think that Texas Southern ices this one at the foul line late to bag the win and cover in this one.
Chris’s Pick Texas Southern -3.5
