The Florida State Seminoles and the Virginia Tech Hokies meet Wednesday in ACC Tournament college basketball action from Capital One Arena. Let’s get into our Florida State vs. Virginia Tech prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Pick Dawgz.
Florida State Seminoles
The Seminoles managed an 11-6 run to open the season but they haven’t been able to win consecutive games since mid-January. Florida State is 3-3 in their last six games with wins over Boston College, NC State and Miami alongside losses to Clemson, Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh otherwise.
Back on Saturday versus Miami, the Seminoles came out of halftime with a 37-32 edge. Florida State finished on a 46-43 run for an 83-75 victory in the end. Darin Green was the leading scorer on 26 points, while Jamir Watkins added 16 points with 11 boards for a double-double.
Virginia Tech Hokies
Over on the Virginia Tech side, they were 13-7 through their first 20 games this season. The Hokies hit a choppy 2-6 run over the next eight games, beating only Florida State and Virginia in that time. It’s been three straight wins over Wake Forest, Louisville and Notre Dame since then.
Matched up against Notre Dame over the weekend, the Hokies were up 43-38 going into the second half. Virginia Tech hit a 39-38 run the rest of the way for an 82-76 win. Sean Pedulla was the leading team scorer on his 28 points with six rebounds and two steals in the victory effort.
ANDREW’S FREE FLORIDA STATE VS VIRGINIA TECH PREDICTION
I’ll lean toward Florida State in this one. We should have a good matchup no matter what, though. The Seminoles didn’t shoot all that well (40 percent) in their latest win over Miami. That said, Florida State notched a 39-38 rebounding edge and scored 15 points off 17 Hurricanes turnovers. Florida State has now scored 73 or more points in four straight games but they’re just 2-2 in that time (losing both road matchups).
In the February 13 meeting between these teams, Virginia Tech secured a home victory 83-75. The Hokies didn’t shoot very well in that one (40.7 percent) but did post 23 points off 13 Seminoles turnovers. If Florida State can keep the ball control in check this time around, we could see a very different ball game. Should be a fun one regardless.
Andrew’s Pick Florida State Seminoles +3
