The Stony Brook Seawolves and the Charleston Cougars meet Tuesday in CAA Tournament college basketball action from Entertainment & Sports Arena. Let’s get into our Stony Brook vs. Charleston prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Pick Dawgz.
Stony Brook Seawolves
The Seawolves were 13-11 overall in early February, then hit a 1-2 stretch with losses to Campbell and Monmouth. Stony Brook has gone 6-1 in the last seven games with wins over North Carolina A&T, William & Mary, Delaware, Northeastern, Drexel and Hofstra in that time.
In Monday’s tournament matchup versus Hofstra, the Seawolves pulled off the upset. Stony Brook came out of the break with a 32-30 edge, then bagged a 31-29 run the rest of the way for a 63-59 win. Tyler Stephenson-Moore posted 23 points with nine rebounds and three steals along the way.

College of Charleston Cougars
Over on the Charleston side, they started out the year on a 13-4 run, then fell to Towson and UNC Wilmington (twice) over the next five outings. The Cougars would then beat William & Mary, NC A&T, Drexel, Northeastern, Delaware, Towson, Campbell, Hofstra and Monmouth over the next 10 games.
Matched up against Towson in tournament action Monday, the Cougars had a very close call. Charleston was up 31-30 going into the second half, then hit a 30-26 run the rest of the way for a 61-56 victory in the end. Reyne Smith was the team’s lead scorer on 16 points with five rebounds and two steals.
ANDREW’S FREE STONY BROOK VS CHARLESTON PREDICTION
I’ll probably lean toward Charleston. You could call this one either way, though. The Cougars were able to escape Monday versus a plucky Towson team, but didn’t play particularly well. Charleston notched just 38.5 percent shooting with 14 turnovers for 12 Tigers points. Everything worked out well and the Cougars haven’t recorded a loss since February 1.
In the last meeting between these teams way back on January 6, Charleston pulled off a 93-87 road victory. Both teams shot very well in that one (over 55.5 percent), but the Cougars made five more free throws and five more from outside. This one could go a lot of different ways (Stony Brook is playing well right now themselves), but I’m leaning toward Charleston.
Andrew’s Pick Charleston Cougars -9.5
