New Hampshire Preview: Will the Wildcats Put Up a Fight?
New Hampshire moved to 16-14 after defeating Binghamton, 77-64. The Wildcats blitzed the Bearcats in the second half to advance, and they’ll look to avenge a pair of losses to the Catamounts here in Burlington. New Hampshire is scoring 74.6 points per game, on 41.6% shooting, while allowing 73.4 ppg, and they’re 4-6 over their last ten games.
New Hampshire’s Impact Players
- Senior forward Clarence Daniels II has hit the 20-point mark in three straight contests, and he’s among the AEC’s leaders in scoring (19.6) and rebounding (9.5).
- Junior guard Ahmad Robinson also hasn’t shot very well over the previous three contests, but he’s still averaging a strong 15.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg, and a team-leading 4.9 apg.
- Phoenix native Jaxson Baker led the way with an 18-point double-double in the win over UNH, and he’s up to 11.9 ppg and 6.4 rpg.
Vermont Preview: Can the Catamounts Advance to the Championship?
Vermont improved to 26-6 after defeating Albany in the AEC Quarterfinals by three, 75-72. The Catamounts used a strong second half to prevent the upset, and they’ll seek cleaner results here against the Wildcats. Vermont is scoring 72.7 points per game, on 46.1% shooting, while allowing 63.4 ppg, and they’re 9-1 over their previous ten games.
Vermont’s Impact Players
- Junior guard TJ Long tallied a team-high 20 points in the Albany victory, and he leads Vermont in scoring (12.3).
- Tarleton transfer Shamir Bogues came thru with a season-high 23 points in the win over UMBC, and he leads the team in rebounding (4.9), while scoring 10.4 ppg.
New Hampshire vs Vermont Trends
- Vermont leads the current series, 86-45, after winning four of the last five meetings.
- UNH is 14-15 against the spread, with a 13-16 O/U record
- VER is 14-16 against the spread, with a 9-21 over/under record
New Hampshire vs Vermont Prediction
Vermont evaded disaster in round one, and while I do believe they’ll find a way to advance to the championship game, the lofty margin could be difficult again. The Catamounts have the stronger team, but the Wildcats boast one of the best 1-2 punches in the conference, and they may be able to capitalize on the points if they stick around early. Vermont trends very well with the Under, so that will be in play here on their home floor, but let’s roll the dice and spot New Hampshire the points for this AEC Quarterfinal.
