New Orleans Privateers
The Privateers were only able to win eight of their first 28 games this year, beating Millsaps, Southern-New Orleans, Central AR, Belhaven, Birmingham-Southern, Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas A&M-CC and Houston Christian. It’s been a 2-2 run since then with wins over Incarnate Word and SE Louisiana.
In Sunday’s matchup versus SE Louisiana, the Privateers held a 39-33 edge by the break. New Orleans hit a 39-33 run again in the second on the way to a 78-66 win. Tops in scoring was Jordan Johnson on his 34 points, three assists and three rebounds during the victory.

Lamar Cardinals
Over on the Lamar side, their year began on a 12-9 run through January. The Cardinals would lose four of the next seven games to Texas A&M-CC, Incarnate Word and McNeese. Since then it’s been three straight wins however, as Lamar has beaten Northwestern State, Texas A&M-Commerce and Houston Christian.
In the Houston Christian matchup on Wednesday, the Cardinals came out of the break with a slim 38-36 edge. Lamar hit a 40-32 run the rest of the way in an eventual wil 78-68. Terry Anderson was the leading team scorer on 21 points with five rebounds and two assists.
ANDREW’S FREE NEW ORLEANS VS LAMAR PREDICTION
I’ll likley lean toward Lamar in this one. The Cardinals got off to a relatively slow start in their last matchup versus a struggling Houston Christian team, but everything worked out well. Lamar shot a nice 49.2 percent from the field in that one with 17 team assists and 37 rebounds. The Cardinals have now scored 70 or more points in three straight, winning all of those.
In the last meeting between these teams on February 17, Lamar took a 94-72 road victory. The Cardinals shot a nice 56.9 percent from the field in that one and bagged a 45-25 rebounding edge in a pretty dominant effort overall. I like Lamar to keep it going in the tournament matchup with a cover.
Andrew’s Pick Lamar Cardinals -9.5
