Sacramento State Hornets
The Hornets got off to a 6-11 run through their first 17 games this year, then hit a losing streak from January 18 through February 22. Sacramento State has done much better on a 3-1 run since then however, with wins over Montana State, Portland State and Idaho in that quartet.
In their Saturday tournament game versus Idaho, the Hornets held a three-point edge by the break then hit a 40-35 run the rest of the way in a 72-64 victory. Leading team scorer Akoi Mawein posted 25 points with three rebounds and two assists in the win.

Eastern Washington Eagles
Over on the Eagles’ side, their year began on a reasonable 17-8 run. That record included a 13-1 run along the way. Eastern Washington is 4-2 since then with losses to Weber State and Northern Arizona before wins versus Northern Colorado, Montana, Montana State and Sacramento State.
In the Sacramento State matchup on Monday, the Eagles had a close call. Eastern Washington went into the break with a 48-48 tie, then outscored the Hornets 43-40 in the second for a win 91-88. Dane Erikstrup was the top team scorer on 24 points with six boards and five assists.
ANDREW’S FREE SACRAMENTO STATE VS EASTERN WASHINGTON PREDICTION
I’ll likely take a stab on Eastern Washington. In reality I’m not touching this one, though. The Eagles haven’t exactly looked dominant lately, and they’re coming off a shaky win over a struggling Sacramento State team. Eastern Washington shot a nice 60.3 percent in that one but also gave up 52.6 percent on the other side along with 14 turnovers for 16 Hornets points. The Eagles’ last two wins have come by a combined seven points.
In the last meeting between these teams on February 5, the Eagles shot a stellar 60.3 percent from the field. It was a sloppy game overall with 32 total turnovers (18 from the Hornets) but was certainly entertaining on offense. We should have another fun matchup here, and I think Eastern Washington can stay in control.
Andrew’s Pick Eastern Washington Eagles -12.5
