The New Orleans Privateers and Southeastern Louisiana Lions meet Sunday in the college basketball Southland Tournament First Round at the Idaho Central Arena. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a New Orleans vs. Southeastern Louisiana prediction.
New Orleans Team Preview
The New Orleans Privateers come into the conference tournament as the 8-seed, finishing the year at 9-22 overall, including a 4-14 mark in conference play. Jordan Johnson leads the Privateers in scoring and assists with 21.4 PPG and 3.9 APG along with 3.2 RPG while Khaleb Wilson-Rouse has 10.4 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for New Orleans up to this point in the year. Jamond Vincent has 8.3 PPG with 5.9 RPG to lead the Privateers on the glass so far this season and Tyson Jackson has 9.2 PPG and 5.7 RPG. As a team, New Orleans is averaging 73.9 PPG on 41.9% shooting from the field, 30.7% from three and 71.3% from the foul line this season.
Southeastern Louisiana Team Preview
The Southeastern Louisiana Lions come into the conference tournament as the 5-seed, finishing the season 15-16 overall including a 10-8 mark in conference play. Nick Caldwell leads the Lions in scoring with 15.5 PPG along with 5.5 RPG while Roger McFarlane has 14.7 PPG with a team-high 8.6 RPG to lead the Lions on the glass and to cap off the pair of double-digit scorers for Southeastern Louisiana so far this season. Alec Woodard has 9.1 PPG with 3.5 RPG and Roscoe Eastmond has 7.8 PPG with a team-high 6.5 APG as well this season. As a team, Southeastern Louisiana is averaging 69.1 PPG on 43.3% shooting from the field, 34.7% from three and 72.8% from the foul line this season.
New Orleans vs. Southeastern Louisiana Prediction
I’m on Southeastern Louisiana here. The Privateers were lucky to make the conference tournament by virtue of a tiebreaker, but the reality here is the Privateers had one of the worst defenses in the Southland this season. Southeastern Louisiana’s the better and more consistent team by a fair margin and I think the Lions take care of business to move on in the tournament. I’ll lay the points with Southeastern Louisiana here.
Chris’s Pick Southeastern Louisiana -6.5
