UC Irvine Anteaters
The Anteaters only lost six of their first 24 games this year in a nice opening. UC Irvine would then hit a 2-2 run with losses to UC Riverside and UC San Diego around wins versus CSU Bakersfield and UC Santa Barbara. It’s been wins over CSU Northridge, Long Beach State and Cal Poly since then.
In the Cal Poly matchup on Thursday, the Anteaters took a five-point lead into the second half. UC Irvine hit a 42-33 run the rest of the way and bagged the win 82-68 in the end. Leading team scorer Andre Henry put up 16 points with two rebounds in the victory.
CSU Fullerton Titans
Over on the CSU Fullerton side, they were 11-10 at the end of January, then took a five-game losing streak to fall to 11-15. The Titans are 3-2 in their last five games though, beating Cal Poly, Long Beach State and UC Santa Barbara with losses to CSU Northridge and UC Riverside.
Back on Thursday versus UC Riverside, the Titans came out of the break with a 42-33 edge. CSU Fullerton was drilled 51-32 in the second half however and ended up falling 51-32 in the end. DJ Brewton was the top scorer in the loss with 26 points and 10 rebounds.
ANDREW’S FREE UC IRVINE VS CSU FULLERTON PREDICTION
I’ll stick with UC Irvine here. The Anteaters didn’t have too many issues (after the first half) versus a struggling Cal Poly team in their last game, hitting 50 percent from the floor with 35 rebounds and just seven turnovers. UC Irvine has now scored 72 or more points in 12 straight games.
In the January 4 meeting between these teams, UC Irvine took a 75-67 home win. The Anteaters shot 51 percent from the field in that game while holding the Titans to just 36.4 percent on the other side. I like another strong effort from the Anteaters in this one on the way to a cover.
