The Sacramento State Hornets and the Idaho Vandals meet Saturday in Big Sky Tournament college basketball action from CenturyLink Arena. Let’s get into our Sacramento State vs. Idaho prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Pick Dawgz.

Sacramento State Hornets

The Hornets managed a 6-11 run over their first 17 games and things got much worse from there. Sacramento State would hit a losing streak from January 18 to February 22, finally bagging a win over Montana State to stop the bleeding. It’s been a win over Portland State and a loss to Eastern Washington in the last pair.

On Monday versus Eastern Washington, the Hornets were unable to get a win streak going. Sacramento State played it close though, with a 48-48 run in the first half on the way to a 91-88 loss. Tops in scoring was Zee Hamoda with 18 points, five rebounds and two steals.

Idaho Vandals

Over on the Idaho side, they also had a massive losing streak that stretched all of January. The Vandals are 4-6 in the last 10 games for a mild improvement, though. The losses in that time came versus Eastern Washington, Weber State, Northern Colorado, Montana State, Montana and Portland State.

Matched up against Portland State, the Vandals were drilled 45-27 in the first half alone. Idaho got better in the second half with a 30-27 run but still lost big 72-57 in the end. D’Angelo Minnis was the top scorer on 16 points with two assists in the defeat.

I’ll lean toward Idaho in this one. There’s not much to get excited about here, though. The Vandals got demolished on the boards by Portland State 39-25 (17-2 offensive) in their last outing, coughing up 18 turnovers for 19 Vikings points along the way. Idaho has been below 58 points in three straight games and could really use a good offensive showing in this one.

The last time these teams saw each other on February 5, Idaho secured a 61-45 road victory. The Vandals were outmuscled on the boards 30-21 (13-2 offensive) in that win, but shot well on 53.7 percent from the field. Idaho should have the inside track on a cover/win here, but it’s no guarantee.

Andrew’s Pick Idaho Vandals -1.5
