North Florida Ospreys
The Ospreys posted a 12-9 start to the season, then took losses to Eastern Kentucky, Austin Peay, North Alabama and Central Arkansas in the next five games. North Florida is 3-2 in their last five games with wins over Queens, Kennesaw State and Stetson in that time.
In the Stetson matchup on Friday, the Ospreys jumped out to a 42-29 halftime lead. North Florida kept it up in the second half with a 36-30 run and took the victory 78-59 in the end. Chaz Lanier was the leading team scorer with 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Austin Peay Governors
Over on the Governors’ side, they were just 10-13 through 23 games this year. Austin Peay then beat North Florida, Kennesaw State, Queens, Central Arkansas and North Alabama before a loss to Lipscomb. Since then it’s been a pair of wins over Eastern Kentucky and Bellarmine. In the Bellarmine matchup on Friday, the Governors had a tight game the whole way. Austin Peay scored 38 points in the first half, 40 in the second and 12 in overtime for a 90-87 victory. Sai Witt doubled up on 25 points and 11 boards in the win. Dez White posted 23 points as well.
ANDREW’S FREE NORTH FLORIDA VS AUSTIN PEAY PREDICTION
I’ll try North Florida here. The Ospreys didn’t have too many issues with Stetson in their last game, shooting 50 recent from the field with 30 rebounds and just eight turnovers. North Florida has scored 78 or more points in each of their last three wins, but 60 or fewer in each of their last two losses.
The last time these teams saw each other on February 3, North Florida posted a 95-91 road loss in double-overtime. Both teams shot very well in that one (over 52 percent) and each had 34 rebounds. The Ospreys posted 12 turnovers (for 14 Austin Peay points) to the Governors’ six, however. So long as North Florida can keep their offense working in this rematch I think they’ve got a good chance at a cover. Should be a fun one to watch.
Andrew’s Pick North Florida Ospreys +3.5
