UAB Blazers
The Blazers’ season began with a pretty solid 14-8 run over their first 22 outings. UAB would lose to SMU before hitting wins over Florida Atlantic, Tulsa and North Texas. Since then it’s been a 1-2 run with losses to Rice and Wichita State around a victory versus Tulane.
In the Wednesday matchup versus Wichita State, the Blazers came out of halftime with a 39-33 deficit. UAB didn’t end up getting any closer on a 35-33 second half and lost the game 74-66 in the end. Alejandro Vasquez was the top scorer in the loss with 22 points and seven boards.

Memphis Tigers
Over on the Tigers’ side, they were reeling after four straight losses to finish off January. Memphis is back on track with a 6-2 run over the last month, though. The victories in February included games versus Wichita State, Temple, Tulane, Charlotte, Florida Atlantic and East Carolina.
Back on Thursday versus East Carolina, the Tigers were up comfortably 36-24 by halftime. Memphis kept it rolling in the second with a 46-34 run and took the victory in the end 82-58. Nae’Qwan Tomlin was the leading team scorer with his 20 points, five rebounds and one assist.
ANDREW’S FREE UAB VS MEMPHIS PREDICTION
I’m taking a stab on UAB here. The Blazers need a bounce-back effort after a tepid game versus Wichita State, though. UAB gave up 50 percent shooting to the Shockers in that defeat while getting outmuscled on the boards 38-31. The Blazers didn’t shoot very well (40.4 percent) and coughed up 13 turnovers in a pretty rough outing. That said, UAB has scored very well pretty much all year, with a nice 69 or more points in 18 straight prior to that.
The Blazers notched an upset win over Memphis the last time these teams met, taking it 97-88 at home on January 28. UAB shot very well (51.7 percent) in that one and also had a 40-32 edge in rebounding. It was a sloppy game though, with a whopping 43 combined turnovers (21 from UAB). Memphis will be ready for the rematch, and it’ll be a tall order to repeat that performance on the road. I think UAB can pull it off but it also wouldn’t be surprising to see the Tigers get some revenge.
