East Carolina Pirates
The Pirates maintained a 9-10 record over their first 19 outings this year. Since then East Carolina has been slightly better at 5-4. The wins in that time came versus Wichita State, Temple, UTSA and Tulane. The losses otherwise were to South Florida, Charlotte, Rice and Memphis.
In their latest outing versus Memphis on Thursday, the Pirates came into the second half with a 36-24 deficit. East Carolina didn’t get any closer on a 46-34 second half and limped to an 82-58 loss. Leading team scorer RJ Felton finished with 19 points with nine rebounds.

North Texas Mean Green
Over on the North Texas side, they got off to a 12-6 start before a 1-4 stretching January. Those losses were to Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, UAB and South Florida. It’s been a .500 run since then with victories versus Tulsa, Memphis and Tulane over the last half-dozen games.
Matched up against Tulane in their Wednesday game, the Mean Green were looking good on a 36-27 halftime advantage. North Texas was outscored 49-44 from there but held on for the win 80-76 in the end. Tops on the team was Aaron Scott with his 19 points, three boards and six assists.
ANDREW’S FREE EAST CAROLINA VS NORTH TEXAS PREDICTION
I’ll lean toward North Texas. You could call it either way, though; the line's thick enough. The Mean Green beat a middling Tulane team in their last outing thanks to 45.6 percent shooting from the field and a solid 20-of-25 (80 percent) from the line. The 12 turnovers (for 12 Green Wave points) didn’t help, but everything worked out for the W. It was a nice return to form on offense after a combined 124 points in North Texas’ previous two games (both losses).
Back on January 17 when these teams last met up, the Mean Green powered out a 60-59 road victory. That one featured some tepid shooting, with both teams below 41.8 percent from the floor. North Texas had a 40-28 edge on the boards (15-6 offensive) however, so if they can do that again in the rematch the Green should be in line for a cover.
Andrew’s Pick North Texas Mean Green -9.5
