Wofford Terriers
The Terriers have managed to stave off the .500 mark for most of the year. Wofford hit a 12-10 run in their first 22 games, then beat Western Carolina, the Citadel and Mercer in the next four. After losses to UNC Greensboro, Chattanooga and Furman the Terriers took a win over Samford.
In the victory over the Bulldogs on Wednesday, the Terriers came out of the break with a 37-29 edge. Wofford kept it rolling in the second half with a 54-40 run and took the victory 91-69. Dillon Bailey was the top team scorer with his 20 points and two rebounds in 24 minutes.
VMI Keydets
Over on the Keydets’ side, it’s been a tough year so far. VMI has wins over only Christendom, Clarks Summit, Penn State-New Kensington and the Citadel this season. In their last five games alone, the Keydets have fallen to Furman, the Citadel, East Tennessee State, Western Carolina and UNC Greensboro.
Matched up against UNC Greensboro in their Wednesday game, VMI fell behind 50-34 by halftime. The Keydets were pummeled 50-24 in the second half and limped to a blowout loss 100-58. Corey Chesley topped the team in the losing effort with 20 points and one rebound.
ANDREW’S FREE WOFFORD VS VMI PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Wofford. The Terriers are coming off a nice win over a good Samford team. This matchup will be a good opportunity for Wofford to close the season on a big win. In the Bulldogs matchup, the Terriers shot a nice 54.2 percent from the field with 44 rebounds and 22 team assists for a solid all-around effort. It was a promising finish after scoring fewer than 68 points in three straight.
Wofford had trouble putting VMI away back on January 3 in an 87-85 overtime win at home. The Terriers weren’t great from the line (63.6 percent) and were pretty permissive on defense (46.3 percent shooting allowed) in that one so they’ll need a better outing in the rematch. If all goes well I think Wofford controls this game, though.
Andrew’s Pick Wofford Terriers -12
