Charleston Southern Buccaneers
The Buccaneers posted a rough 6-11 record over their first 17 games. Charleston Southern would then go 2-6 over the next eight with losses to High Point. Winthrop, UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb. It’s been a 2-1 run since then with wins over USC Upstate and Radford.
In the Radford game on Wednesday, the Buccaneers were in trouble with a 38-31 deficit going into the second half. Charleston Southern finished on a 27-19 run from there however and won it 58-57. A’lahn Sumler was the leading team scorer on 24 points with two rebounds.
Presbyterian Blue Hose
Over on the Presbyterian side, their year began on a 9-13 stretch through their first 22 outings. The Blue Hose are .500 through their last eight with wins over USC Upstate, Gardner-Webb, Radford and Winthrop. The losses came versus High Point, UNC Asheville, Longwood and USC Upstate otherwise.
Matched up against USC Upstate on Wednesday, the Blue Hose faced a 39-30 deficit by the break. Presbyterian fought back with a 42-35 run the rest of the way but it wasn’t enough in a tough loss 74-72. Kory Mincy was the top team scorer with his 17 points off the bench in the defeat.
ANDREW’S FREE CHARLESTON SOUTHERN VS PRESBYTERIAN PREDICTION
I’ll take a stab on Presbyterian here. You could call it either way, though. The Blue Hose didn’t play terribly in their latest loss to USC Upstate, shooting 45.6 percent from the field with 36 rebounds. Presbyterian gave up 49.2 percent shooting on the other side however, and went just 5-of-19 (26.3 percent) from 3-point range. The good news for the Hose is that they’ve posted 69 or more points in six straight—a 3-3 run.
Presbyterian was able to pull off a 68-61 win on the road the last time these teams met up back on January 3. The Blue Hose scored 16 points off 16 Buccaneers turnovers in that one; otherwise the stats were fairly similar. Charleston Southern could very well put up a good fight in this rematch, but I’m still leaning toward Presbyterian cover-wise.
Andrew’s Pick Presbyterian Blue Hose -6.5
