Utah leads the head-to-head series, 21-15, and they come in as 7-point home favorites, with the total sitting at 154.5. Stay tuned for our Stanford vs Utah Prediction.

Stanford Preview: Can the Cardinal Stop the Bleeding?

Stanford dropped to 12-15 after losing to Oregon State at home, 85-73. The Cardinal were outscored in both halves by the Beavers, and they’ll attempt to dodge a fifth straight loss here in Salt Lake City. Stanford is scoring 76.9 points per game, on 47.0% shooting, while allowing 75.9 ppg, and they’re currently 10th in the Pac-12 with a 7-10 record in conference play. The Cardinal are 4-6 over their previous ten games, and they’ve gone 3-6 on the road this season.

Stanford Cardinal Team Profile

  • Jerod Haase’s squad likes to play up pace, averaging 73.7 possessions per game (46th), and they’re one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country at 38.1%.
  • Junior forward Maxime Raynaud held his own with 29 points in the Oregon State matchup, and he leads Stanford in scoring (15.3) and rebounding (9.9).
  • San Diego native Brandon Angel has scored 15 points or more in four straight games, and he’s up to 13.4 ppg and 4.6 rpg.
  • Senior forward Spencer Jones has reached double figures in four of the last six games, and he’s averaging 10.9 ppg and 4.0 rpg.

Utah Preview: Will the Utes Close the Season on a Sour Note?

Utah fell to 16-11 after falling to Colorado in Boulder, 89-65. The Utes were bullied by the Buffaloes for 40 minutes, and they’ll look to avoid being swept by the Cardinal this Thursday evening. Utah is scoring 77.8 points per game, on 47.0% shooting, while allowing 70.5 ppg, and they’re currently 8th in the Pac-12 with a 2-7 record in league play. The Utes are 7-3 over their last ten games, and they’re 12-2 in Salt Lake City.

Utah Utes Team Profile

  • Craig Smith’s team also prefers an up-tempo style, averaging 73.2 possessions per game (67th), and they shoot 35.1% from beyond the arc.
  • Veteran big man Branden Carlson was contained in the Colorado matchup, and he leads Utah in scoring (16.5) and rebounding (7.0).
  • Senior guard Gabe Madsen went for a team-high 18 points in the versus the Buffs, and he’s second on the team at 13.0 ppg.
  • Georgia Tech transfer Deivon Smith posted a double-double in the road win over UCLA, and he’s posting a line of 11.8 ppg, 5.6 rpg, and a team-leading 6.1 apg.

Stanford vs Utah Trends

  • STAN is 13-14 against the spread, with a 16-1 O/U record
  • UTA is 12-15 ATS, with a 13-12-2 over/under record.

Stanford vs Utah Prediction

Utah and Stanford have both flamed out down the stretch of this season, but with hosts postseason hopes still slightly alive, I do believe they’ll find their way back into the win column. The Cardinals won’t have much to play for here, and with the Utes thriving at home this year, that trend should continue this Thursday. Tilt Utah’s margin for safety, and back then for this Pac-12 clash.
